Sr Electrical & ELV Design Engineer Modular Construction

As Electrical & ELV Design Lead, you will own the electrical engineering backbone of our modular ecosystemfrom load calculations to coordinated BIM sign-offsensuring our buildings are safe, scalable, and manufacturable.
The Role
You will lead end-to-end electrical and ELV engineering design for modular buildings across residential, commercial, institutional, and industrial typologies.
Your mandate is not just complianceit is system optimization for scale, manufacturability, cost-efficiency, and rapid deployment.
You will work closely with:
- Structural & Modular Design Teams
- BIM & Digital Engineering
- Procurement & Supply Chain
- Project Execution & Site Teams
- External Consultants & Approval Authorities
Key Responsibilities
1. Electrical Load Analysis & System Design
- Perform detailed load calculations as per IS 732, IS 3043, National Electrical Code of India and relevant IS standards.
- Design HT/LT systems including:
- Transformer sizing
- DG set sizing
- UPS systems
- Power distribution boards
- Busbar trunking systems
- Short circuit calculations and protection coordination.
- Voltage drop calculations and cable sizing.
- Lightning protection system design.
- Earthing system design (grid / plate / chemical earthing).
2. ELV Systems Engineering
Design and coordinate:
- Fire Alarm Systems (as per IS 2189)
- CCTV Systems
- Access Control Systems
- Structured Cabling
- Public Address Systems
- BMS integration
- Data & Server Room Infrastructure
Ensure modular routing compatibility and factory integration feasibility.
3. Design for Manufacturing & Assembly (DFMA)
- Optimize routing for:
- Pre-installed conduits in wall panels
- Pre-wired modules
- Plug-and-play electrical interfaces
- Standardize:
- Distribution board layouts
- Panel schedules
- Cable tray modules
- Reduce on-site wiring complexity through prefabricated assemblies.
- Develop electrical installation methodology aligned to modular erection sequencing.
4. Equipment Sizing & Technical Approvals
- Finalise technical specifications for:
- Transformers
- DG sets
- UPS systems
- Panels & switchgear
- Cables
- Lighting fixtures
- Evaluate vendor technical submittals.
- Review manufacturer datasheets.
- Approve materials before procurement.
- Participate in techno-commercial evaluations.
5. Bill of Quantities (BOQ) & BOM Development
- Prepare detailed BOQs for tender and execution.
- Develop accurate Electrical & ELV BOMs for:
- Modular factory production
- Site installation
- Optimise design for cost without compromising safety or reliability.
- Support the estimation team with quantity validation.
6. Project Profitability & Cost Engineering
- Perform value engineering exercises.
- Compare alternatives (copper vs aluminium, busbar vs cable, etc.).
- Reduce overdesign.
- Support project cost control reviews.
- Monitor the electrical scope margin impact.
7. Electrical Drawing Review & Coordination
- Prepare and review:
- SLDs (Single Line Diagrams)
- Load schedules
- Cable schedules
- Lighting layouts
- Power layouts
- Earthing layouts
- Fire alarm drawings
- Conduct coordinated drawing reviews with:
- Structural
- Architecture
- MEP
- Lead BIM coordination meetings.
- Final sign-off on coordinated electrical drawings prior to fabrication.
8. Site & Factory Integration
- Conduct factory audits for electrical pre-installations.
- Verify panel assembly QC.
- Conduct pre-dispatch inspections.
- Support commissioning and site inspections.
- Approve ITPs and QC documentation.
9. Modular Electrical System Development
- Develop a standardised electrical architecture for:
- Residential modules
- Institutional blocks
- Industrial modules
- Create electrical design templates for scalable deployment.
- Build reusable electrical & ELV libraries in BIM.
Skills & Qualifications
- B.E / B.Tech in Electrical Engineering (Masters preferred)
- 7+ years of experience in building electrical design
- Experience in EPC projects
- Experience in modular / prefab projects preferred
- Strong understanding of Indian Electrical Codes & IS standards
- Experience in:
- ETAP / E-Tap / Power simulation tools (preferred)
- AutoCAD
- Revit MEP
- BIM coordination workflows
- Experience in preparing detailed BOQ and estimation
- Strong knowledge of electrical safety compliance
