Job Purpose:
Responsible for cost estimating, budgeting, cost control, and forecasting for drilling and well programs. The role ensures strong cost governance, accurate financial visibility, and timely insights to support efficient and controlled execution of drilling operations.
Key Responsibilities:
Prepare and maintain detailed well cost estimates and budgets, including a clear basis of estimate, cost breakdown structures, and appropriate contingencies aligned with the level of engineering maturity.
Develop and manage expenditure approvals for drilling activities and track commitments to ensure spending remains within approved limits, including management of cost changes.
Perform cost control and forecasting throughout the well lifecycle, providing regular cost outlooks and early identification of potential cost overruns or efficiency gaps.
Maintain cost codes and work breakdown structures, ensuring accurate cost allocation, accruals, reconciliation, and month-end close coordination with finance and supply chain teams.
Review and validate contractor and service company invoices against contracts, work orders, and field records to support resolution of billing discrepancies and claims.
Generate cost reports and dashboards covering well-level and phase-level costs, cost per well, cost per foot, and cost impacts of non-productive time.
Analyse cost drivers, operational variances, and performance trends to support cost optimisation, benchmarking, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Work closely with drilling, planning, and operations teams to align cost plans with execution strategies, risks, and operational changes, ensuring transparent communication to management.
Qualifications & Skills:
Bachelors degree in Engineering, preferably Petroleum or Mechanical, or an equivalent technical discipline.
58 years of experience in cost engineering or cost control roles, preferably in the oil & gas or downstream industry.
Strong experience in well cost estimating, budgeting, forecasting, variance analysis, and expenditure control.
Sound understanding of drilling cost drivers, operational performance metrics, and non-productive time impacts.
Hands-on experience with enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems, cost tracking tools, and advanced spreadsheet-based analysis and reporting.
Ability to interpret operational data and translate it into clear cost insights for decision-making.
Strong attention to detail, stakeholder coordination skills, and the ability to work in fast-paced, multi-contractor project environments.
Willingness to travel to project and operating sites as per business requirements, with flexibility for relocation if needed.
