*Job Description*

We are seeking a senior Solution Architect to lead a high-priority migration of a retail groups digital platform into a new group-wide Azure environment. This is a rebuild-from-scratch migration, not a lift-and-shift. The architect will conduct deep technical discovery across approximately 50 applications (including 2025 Azure PaaS applications), identify architectural dependencies, and close the gap between board-level cost expectations and actual technical effort.

The role requires producing detailed Low-Level Designs (LLDs), leading a pilot migration to establish cost and effort benchmarks, and implementing a parallel migration strategy to ensure zero disruption to live systems. The architect will work alongside active development teams to ensure the migration progresses without impacting ongoing delivery.

*Key Responsibilities*

• Perform deep discovery and audit of 2025 Azure PaaS applications.
• Analyse complex integrations including Azure Data Factory and Databricks.
• Develop Low-Level Designs maintaining Azure App Services, API Management, and Azure SQL architecture.
• Introduce new group standards including private endpoints and private DNS zones.
• Design and implement geo-replicated disaster recovery across UK South and UK West using an active-passive manual failover model.
• Design security integration with SAS Web Application Firewalls (WAF) in front of public-facing Application Gateways.
• Conduct code-level audits of .NET and TypeScript applications to identify hard-coded hostnames, IP addresses, and Key Vault references.
• Lead a pilot migration batch to benchmark effort, cost, and timelines for full-platform migration.
• Communicate technical risks, cost drivers, and resource requirements to senior leadership.

*Requirements*

• Extensive hands-on experience with Azure App Services, API Management, and Azure SQL Databases.
• Strong Infrastructure as Code expertise (Terraform preferred, Bicep acceptable).
• Deep understanding of private endpoints, subnet configuration, and private DNS zone management.
• Experience migrating large Azure SQL databases and managing cutover window constraints.
• Strong experience with CI/CD pipelines for multi-environment and multi-region deployments.
• Proven experience executing parallel migration strategies with zero-downtime cutovers.
• Strong stakeholder management skills with ability to justify architectural decisions to senior leadership.
• Software engineering background (preferably .NET) with ability to review source code dependencies.
