Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 5 years of experience with software development in one or more programming languages, and with data structures/algorithms.
  • 3 years of experience in a technical leadership role overseeing projects,.
  • 2 years of experience in a people management, supervision/team leadership role.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience with high-quality Android apps.
  • Experience building and maintaining APIs.
  • Ability to learning new skills and cultivate additional expertise.
  • Ability to manage a team.

With technical and leadership expertise, you manage engineers across multiple teams and locations, a large product budget and oversee the deployment of large-scale projects across multiple sites internationally.

We build the Wear OS platform for wearables to help users live healthier and more productive lives. Wear OS offers a range of functionalities, including notifications, fitness tracking, media, voice commands, and access to a variety of apps via the Google Play Store. WearOS is Android based OS which is developed by Google specifically for smart watches.

The Platforms and Devices team encompasses Google's various computing software platforms across environments (desktop, mobile, applications), as well as our first party devices and services that combine the best of Google AI, software, and hardware. Teams across this area research, design, and develop new technologies to make our user's interaction with computing faster and more seamless, building innovative experiences for our users around the world.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a team of engineers fostering their development through mentorship and by seeking avenues for their advancement.
  • Develop product or system Android development code (Kotlin/ Java) to build WearOS Media services, developer APIs and applications like Wear Media remote service, Media Playback and Cast Integration.
  • Design APIs and services for specific app verticals, (e.g., Media) to improve the product experience and reduce the cost to developers of building apps for Wear OS.
  • Collaborate with Android DevRel and first-party teams to identify opportunities to improve the developer story.
  • Contribute across the Wear OS stack, from developing new APIs to building UIs and enhancing frameworks.
