SOFTWARE ENGINEER III

About the Team: 

The Catalog team is responsible for the core systems that manage Walmart’s entire product catalog, powering both our physical stores and e-commerce platforms. Our work ensures that every item (from groceries to electronics) is accurately represented, discoverable, and available to customers at scale. 

We solve complex challenges in data modeling, high-throughput distributed systems, and real-time synchronization, directly impacting the experience of millions of shoppers every day. 

What You’ll Do: 

• Own end-to-end delivery of features, from ideation and design through implementation, testing, deployment, and monitoring. 

• Architect, design, and implement robust, scalable backend systems that manage product data at a global scale. 

• Collaborate closely with product managers, architects, and cross-functional engineering teams to deliver solutions that are reliable, performant, and aligned with business goals. 

• Drive technical excellence through code reviews, design discussions, and mentorship, raising the bar for engineering quality and best practices. 

• Analyze and optimize system performance, proactively identifying bottlenecks and opportunities for improvement. 

• Uphold a singular focus on delivering high-quality, maintainable solutions that enable Walmart to innovate rapidly while ensuring catalog integrity and consistency. 

What You’ll Bring: 

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field. 

• Minimum 2+ years of professional software development experience, with a proven track record of delivering backend systems in production environments. 

• Strong proficiency in at least one modern programming language (such as Java, Python, or Go). 

• Experience designing and building RESTful APIs and distributed microservices. 

• Solid understanding of data structures, algorithms, and system design principles. 

• Experience with relational and/or NoSQL databases. 

• Familiarity with cloud-native architectures, containerization (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes), and CI/CD pipelines is a plus. 

• Experience working in high-throughput, large-scale environments (catalog, inventory, or data management systems preferred). 

• Excellent problem-solving skills and keen attention to detail. 

• Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a cross-functional team. 

• Passion for building resilient, scalable, and maintainable platforms that drive business success. 

Nice to Have: 

• Experience with large-scale catalog, inventory, or data management systems. 

• Familiarity with cloud-native architectures, containerization, and CI/CD pipelines. 

• Exposure to e-commerce, retail, or high-availability transactional systems.
