Introduction to the team:
 

The Coupons team at Expedia is a centralized group responsible for overseeing and managing the company's promotional and discounting capabilities. This team plays a crucial role in shaping and executing strategies that enhance customer engagement and drive business growth. By managing everything from promotional campaigns to complex discounting logic, they help ensure that Expedia remains competitive and responsive to market demands.
In addition to its business impact, the Coupons team is deeply involved in various technology and innovation initiatives that align with Expedia’s broader goals. They contribute to the development of new features, optimizations, and improvements that directly influence both the user experience and backend operations.
The team works with an extensive and sophisticated tech stack to deliver scalable, high-performance solutions. This includes technologies such as Elasticsearch for fast data retrieval, Kotlin for backend development, AWS Cloud for infrastructure and scalability, Spring Boot for building robust applications, Kafka for real-time data streaming, and Apache for distributed systems. By leveraging these tools, the team ensures a seamless and efficient experience for both customers and internal stakeholders.

In this role, you will: 

• Design, develop, debug, and modify software applications, tools, and data processing pipelines

• Drive technical implementation at the application/product level for small to mid-sized projects.

• Work collaboratively in a team to design and implement a component or feature of 1-4 weeks of duration.

• Provide quality implementation of a component or feature (typically 1-4 weeks in duration) with peer and manager support.

• Build a cloud-native, streaming data, real-time processing, and a data lake platform that scales into the terabytes

• Contribute to a product has the potential to become the foundational transaction platform for the entire travel industry

Experience and qualifications:  

• Bachelor's in Computer Science or related technical field; or Equivalent related professional experience

• Experience in the range of 1-4 years in software development (SDLC), or in object-oriented programming, having worked with distributed systems.

• A strong interest/experience in Cloud platforms like AWS, Azure, Google Cloud, etc.

• Excellent coding skills in any modern programming language (Java is preferred).

• Strong technical proficiency, capable of problem solving and applying critical thinking.

• A deep understanding of software design principles, algorithms and data structures.

• Experience with automated testing, including unit, functional, and integration testing.

• Demonstrated self-discipline, dependability and accountability.

• Strong interpersonal skills, written and verbal communication, problem-solving and analytical skills.
