Overview:
The Social and Governance Manager role is a well-established role, positioned with the responsible ship recycling department under the fleet technology function, with ample room to develop further as things evolve. It is an exciting role with an active mix of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) projects, Social Impact and Governance space. You are expected to carry forward and further develop our strategic CSR projects in line with the company’s citizenship efforts wherein we support societies and communities where we operate. You would pursue this by closely working with several key internal and external stakeholders.
Key activities would include end to end project management of CSR projects including, annual planning, execution, monitoring, reporting and communication. You would also support the programme leads especially on social impact communication and governance.
Additionally, being part of the responsible ship recycling programme, you are expected to support the sustainable procurement audits, especially focusing on labour and human rights.
Furthermore, you are expected to help Maersk position its role in decarbonisation the global steel value chain through its responsible ship recycling programme. You would especially study the steel circular economy model while studying linkages between recycling and steel production.
Finally, you are expected to support the Maersk’s global corporate sustainability team on global donations and human rights on the aspects related to governance, reporting and communication.
Role Objectives:
Develop, plan, and execute strategic CSR projects in line with the company’s community development efforts
Study pertinent issues and developing phase-wise development plans
Execute and manage projects including conducting periodic reviews to ensure optimal functioning
Monitor and assess impact of the CSR projects and present it to the senior management
Ensure that the CSR projects are fully compliant with the section 135 of the Companies Act and CSR Policy (Rules)
Communicate CSR work with the broader audience, (Internal and external) through channels like awards nominations, case study publications and others
Support sustainable procurement audits for suppliers (existing and new)
Develop, plan, and execute an academic study in alignment with the company’s green steel pursuits
Study pertinent issues and conduct research to understand emerging industry trends, best practices and regulatory changes related to steel scrap
Support the global corporate sustainability team in screening of donation requests and providing programmatic inputs, as applicable
Support human rights reporting, especially on aspects related to CSRD and CSDDD
Key Responsibilities:
Act as the focal point for the Company's CSR initiatives in geography and build relationships with NGOs, community partners and key stakeholders
Manage, execute and develop projects in response to the evolving needs of the community
Monitor project effectiveness and introduce course corrections as necessary
Prepare and share reports on progress achieved and key achievements
Manage budgets and resources and ensure timely, effective and efficient utilisation of funds
Seek partners (internal and external) to pursue overall area development objectives
Collaborate with communications teams to showcase achievements
Conduct research and stay abreast about emerging industry trends, best practices and regulatory changes in CSR
Support sustainable procurement audits for suppliers (existing and new)
Lead/Support/ an academic study to understand the potential of linking scrap generated from ship recycling to steel production and decarbonisation
Act as the focal point for the Company's Green Steel initiatives and build relationships with Think Tanks, NGOs, academia and other key stakeholders (internal and external)
Work with internal cross-functional teams like procurement, governance and standards to support Maersk’s steel decarbonisation journey
We are looking for:
Master’s degree or equivalent, likely in Social Sciences, Sustainability or Business Administration or a master’s degree or equivalent in Environmental Science, or a related field
A minimum of 10 years of work experience as a CSR manager or programme manager with Corporates/Foundations or NGOs
3-5 years of experience preferably in an academic institute, a knowledge-based think-tank, consultancies of other related organisations are desired but not mandatory
Knowledge of ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) reporting
Excellent project management and organizational skills
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to work independently, collaboratively and flexibly
Willingness to travel to meet stakeholders and showcase our work
