SME PHE Fire Engineer

Nxtra by Airtel Africa is expanding its hyperscale data centre footprint and is looking for a Jr. PHE & Fire Fighting Engineer to support the design and delivery of mission-critical infrastructure projects across Africa.

Role Overview

The role will focus on Public Health Engineering (PHE) and Fire Fighting systems for hyperscale data centres, ensuring life safety, code compliance, and operational reliability. The engineer will work closely with design consultants, project teams, and vendors to deliver robust and compliant systems.

Key Responsibilities

• Support design review and execution of PHE systems including water supply, drainage, sewage, and rainwater systems for data centres
• Support design and delivery of fire fighting & fire protection systems such as hydrant systems, sprinkler systems, gas suppression, and fire pumps
• Review drawings, specifications, hydraulic calculations, and vendor submittals
• Coordinate with consultants, contractors, and OEMs for timely execution
• Ensure compliance with local codes, NFPA standards, and data centre best practices
• Support testing, commissioning, integrated systems testing (IST), and project handover
• Participate in technical evaluations, inspections, and safety audits

Experience & Qualifications

• Total experience: 10 years
• Minimum 3 years of hands-on data centre experience
• Exposure to design and delivery of hyperscale data centre projects
• Degree in Mechanical / Civil Engineering or equivalent
• Strong understanding of PHE, fire fighting systems, and life safety in mission-critical facilities
