Job Description

Havells Centre for Research & Innovation (CRI) is the technological engine behind Indias nextgeneration electrical products. With advanced simulation labs, fullscale testing infrastructure, rapid prototyping capabilities, and endtoend product development ownership, CRI drives innovation for global and domestic markets.

Job Summary

We are seeking an Electromagnetic Simulation Engineer to strengthen our switchgear design and development team. The role involves performing low-frequency electromagnetic modelling, multiphysics simulations, optimization, and validation for critical switchgear components. The ideal candidate will leverage stateoftheart tools and deep domain knowledge to improve product performance, reliability, and safety while supporting accelerated virtual prototyping and design decisions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate strong understanding of lowfrequency electromagnetic fundamentals, Maxwells equations, and FEM theory.
  • Develop low-frequency EM simulation models for ACB, MCCB, RCB, and MCB components using tools such as ANSYS Maxwell, MotorCAD.
  • Build accurate FEM models to predict magnetic flux, losses, core saturation, thermal distribution, and breakdown behavior.
  • Perform prediction and analysis of electromagnetic forces on magnetic steels and conducting bodies; must be skilled in transient excitations and dynamic simulations.
  • Execute multiphysics simulations, including electromagneticthermal and electromagneticmechanical coupling, to assess operational stresses and temperature profiles.
  • Validate simulation results with experimental data, test reports, and prototyping outcomes; calibrate models to represent real-world performance accurately.
  • Use optimization tools such as OptiSLang, MATLAB, and Python scripts to refine component geometry, materials, coil configurations, and system efficiency.
  • Collaborate with mechanical design, thermal, controls, testing, and manufacturing teams throughout the product development lifecycle.
  • Prepare detailed simulation reports, FEM documentation, BOM inputs, and design review materials.
  • (Optional) Support field activities such as installation, calibration, commissioning, and troubleshooting using simulation-derived insights.
  • Exposure to EMI/EMC simulations, electronics reliability assessment, and failuremode analysis is an advantage.
  • Exposure to AI integration in simulation workflows, including Deep Learning and Generative AIbased modelling, will be considered a strong plus.

Qualifications & Experience

  • M.Tech / MS in Electrical Engineering, Power Engineering, Electromagnetics, or related discipline.
  • 15 years of handson experience in electromagnetic simulations.
  • Proficiency in tools such as ANSYS Maxwell, MotorCAD, COMSOL, OptiSLang, MATLAB, Python, etc.
  • Strong understanding of switchgear components, circuit protection concepts, and power system behavior.
