Job Description
Location: Pune
Employment Type: Full-time
Altair is seeking a highly experienced Signal Processing Engineer with a Doctoral Degree to join our advanced sensing R&D initiatives. Our programs involve sophisticated, multi-sensor systems for object detection, classification, and high-accuracy positioning. The role requires deep expertise in both classical and modern signal processing techniques, with applications across underwater sensing and vision-based positioning systems.
This is a senior, impact-heavy role suited for someone who has extensive hands-on experience building, optimizing, and deploying signal processing algorithms in real-world environments.
- Lead the development and refinement of algorithms for detection, recognition, and classification based on acoustic and optical sensor data.
- Apply advanced methods such as LOFAR , DEMON , STFT , and related spectral analysis techniques to real-world datasets.
- Architect robust pipelines for timefrequency analysis , noise reduction, feature extraction, and statistical modeling.
- Optimize algorithms for real-time or nearreal-time performance on embedded and edge-compute platforms.
- Support parallel R&D efforts in vision-based positioning through signal-level operations such as threshold optimization, centroiding, denoising, and precision measurement .
- Mentor junior engineers and guide technical decisions across multidisciplinary teams.
- Lead field experiments, evaluate performance under varied environmental conditions, and drive improvements based on empirical results.
- Produce high-quality documentation, technical reports, and algorithm specifications.
- PhD (Doctoral Degree) in Signal Processing, Acoustics, Applied Physics, Electrical Engineering, or a closely related field.
- 512+ years of hands-on experience in advanced signal processing R&D.
- Proven expertise in underwater-domain processing techniques including:
- LOFAR (Low Frequency Analysis & Recording)
- DEMON (Detection of Envelope Modulation On Noise)
- STFT (Short-Time Fourier Transform)
- Spectral estimation, beamforming, matched filtering, parametric modeling, etc.
- Strong proficiency in scientific programming (Python, MATLAB, C, C++, NumPy/SciPy).
- Extensive experience with noisy, low-SNR data and real-world sensor imperfections.
- Strong mathematical foundation in Fourier analysis, estimation theory, statistical signal processing, and detection theory.
- Demonstrated ability to take algorithms from concept prototype validated deployment-ready implementation.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to lead complex technical problem-solving.
- Experience with underwater acoustics , passive/active sonar, or related sensing modalities.
- Background in image-domain signal processing , centroiding, threshold optimization, or feature localization.
- Experience working with multidisciplinary teams (optics, embedded, mechanical, AI/ML).
- Prior involvement in transitioning laboratory algorithms into robust field-ready systems.
A seasoned expert who combines deep theoretical knowledge with strong practical engineering instincts. Someone comfortable leading algorithmic design, mentoring teams, and solving challenging problems across multiple sensing domains. A person who thrives in high-end R&D environments where rigor, innovation, and scientific clarity matter.
