What Youll Be Doing (position summary):
The Senior Specialist, Investigations is responsible for leading and executing complex, high-value investigations to mitigate risk and minimize potential losses resulting from fraud, forgeries, disputed items, lost or stolen drafts, and missing deposits. This role ensures the highest standards of compliance, resolution accuracy, and client service for Commercial Banking and Corporate clients. The incumbent acts as a subject matter expert, provides guidance to junior team members, and drives continuous improvement initiatives to enhance operational efficiency and risk management.

How Youll Succeed (responsibilities):
- Lead the resolution of complex and high-risk client investigation requests, ensuring timely and accurate outcomes to mitigate financial loss and uphold client satisfaction.
- Oversee and perform advanced analysis and investigations using Client Connect and other systems, documenting findings and corrective actions.
- Conduct in-depth root cause analysis on recurring anomalies, recommend and implement process improvements to prevent reoccurrence.
- Provide expert assistance to clients and internal stakeholders in resolving posting errors, missing items, and complex deposit issues.
- Escalate critical or unresolved matters to management, ensuring appropriate follow-up and documentation.
- Liaise with cross-functional teams, business partners, and support centers (e.g., Retail Operations, INTRIA, branch networks) to coordinate investigations and process enhancements.
- Ensure all solutions and recommendations comply with CIBC policies, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices.
- Mentor and coach junior investigation specialists, sharing expertise and promoting skill development within the team.
- Stay abreast of internal and external developments in fraud management, compliance, and banking operations.
- Drive initiatives to improve operational efficiency, client experience, and risk mitigation across the investigations function.
Experience: 5+ years of experience.
Who You Are (skills/qualifications):
Must Have Skills:
- Bachelor's degree in business, Finance, Operations Management, or a related field.
- 5+ years of experience in investigations, fraud management, or banking operations.
- Proficiency in English (written and verbal) is required.
- Expertise in investigations, fraud management, or transaction processing.
- Extensive knowledge of bank clearing procedures, including CPA rules on fraud, forgery, and electronic funds transfer.
- Detailed understanding of Commercial Banking and Corporate client products, services, and procedures.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills with the ability to handle high-pressure situations.
- Effective communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and lead projects across teams.
- High attention to detail, accuracy, and confidentiality.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
