Senior Specialist - Database Administration

The Senior Oracle Database Specialist, Database Administration, will provide oracle database administration support for LSEG Post Trade database applications.  This includes implementing and supporting oracle database systems in accordance with industry standard methodologies.

They will provide support for backup and recovery, performance analysis, clustering, data management, user and developer assistance, and also be a point of escalation for more junior Database Engineers and Application Team engineers.

They will also support issues relating to database connectivity using ODBC, JDBC or vendor specific architectures.

Key responsibilities of the role:

Performing database maintenance activities including security controls, patching and high availability.

Monitoring and configuration of database resources to ensure optimum performance.

Documenting and running database server procedures such as backup and restore, upgrades and disaster recovery procedures.

Undertaking database maintenance and upgrades, generally out of normal business hours including weekends.

Providing database design support to development projects.

Performance tuning and diagnostics, query plan analysis and the use of AWR / ASH / ADDM.

Review database application code, collaborate on code improvements and maintain the source code using standard company tooling.

Assist Unix administrators to support applications requiring database expertise.

Participate in shift cover and be available for on-call service.  Shift cover will mean that you perform tasks that may be outside of the normal responsibilities.

Define and maintain a strategy for database management to include both manual procedures/spot checks and automated alerts.

Assist IT Security in maintaining an appropriate database security policy and evaluate applications to ‘police’ alignment to policy.

Key behaviours and skills required to be successful in the role:

Have experience in supporting business critical applications and servers in a multi data center environment. In particular the jobholder will demonstrate expertise in the following areas:

Oracle DBA.

One other RDBMS (SQL Server, Sybase ASE, PostgreSQL, etc).

Azure, AWS (RDS) Cloud Database Skills.

Automation (Shell Scripting, PL/SQL, TSQL, APEX - Application Express).

Extensive experience in ORACLE 12c and 19c Database Administration, RAC, Grid Infrastructure,  ASM/ACFS, Data Guard, RMAN, Oracle Enterprise Manager (OEM), Database Infrastructure Installs, Database Upgrades, Database Patching, Solaris X86, Red Hat Enterprise Linux.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

Experience of working in the finance sector would be an advantage.

Sophisticated problem solving skills, able to think clearly and calmly under pressure and across technology boundaries.

Able to prioritise work.

Understanding of ITIL Service Framework.

Familiarity with monitoring products.

OPTIONAL REQUIREMENTS

Experience with Delphix.

Experience with Control-M, Service Now, Service Now CMDB.
