Overview

Microsoft’s Azure Data engineering team is leading the transformation of analytics in the world of data with products like databases, data integration, big data analytics, messaging & real-time analytics, and business intelligence. As a Senior Software Engineer, you will play a critical role in advancing the quality and reliability of Power BI Desktop and Service. You will design and implement scalable testing strategies, AI-powered automation, and modern engineering systems that drive product excellence. You’ll contribute to secure and compliant development workflows, integrating GenAI and telemetry to improve engineering efficiency. Working closely with cross-functional teams across geographies, you’ll ensure alignment on goals, quality standards, and delivery timelines. This role emphasizes metric-driven execution, continuous learning, and innovation in automation and observability.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related technical field and 8+ years of technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C#, Java, TypeScript, JavaScript, or Python

2+ years experience with testing frameworks OR engineering systems

Proven ability to communicate and collaborate effectively across disciplines and global teams

Willingness to accommodate meetings and collaboration across Pacific Time zone working hours

Additional Qualifications

Experience with Power BI or other business intelligence technologies

Experience with PowerShell, Azure DevOps (ADO), GitHub, Kusto
Passion for driving quality and engineering efficiency through data-driven insights, GenAI integration, and automation strategies

This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Lead the design and implement robust testing strategies and automation frameworks to ensure high-quality weekly releases for Power BI Service and monthly releases for Power BI Desktop

Lead the development of secure, scalable engineering systems that enhance productivity and support compliance

Mentor and support team members, providing technical guidance, fostering growth, and promoting a culture of learning and accountability

Integrate GenAI and modern testing architectures to improve test coverage, reliability, and efficiency

Collaborate across disciplines and geographies to align on engineering goals, quality standards, and delivery timelines

Drive metric-based execution and continuous tracking of success indicators to inform priorities and outcomes
