Job Title: Senior Research Engineer Path Planning & Controls
Role Overview:
We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Research Engineer with deep expertise in path planning, motion planning, and control systems for autonomous defense robotics platforms. The ideal candidate will lead research, algorithm development, and prototype implementation for navigation, mobility, and autonomous decision-making in complex, unstructured, and mission-critical environments.
Key Responsibilities
Algorithm Development & Research
Design, develop, and optimize path planning and motion planning algorithms such as A*, D*, RRT/RRT*, MPC, and trajectory optimization.
Develop robust motion control algorithms for autonomous ground or aerial defense robotic systems.
Conduct research to enhance navigation accuracy, responsiveness, and safety under uncertain and dynamic environments.
System Integration & Implementation
Implement planning and control algorithms in high-performance C++ for real-time robotic systems.
Integrate algorithms with perception, mapping, and localization modules (SLAM, sensor fusion, etc.).
Work closely with embedded, mechanical, and perception teams to ensure seamless system performance.
Simulation & Testing
Build and utilize simulation environments (Gazebo, Isaac Sim, ROS-based simulators) to test and validate algorithms.
Conduct field testing, analyze logs, and iterate on improvements for reliability and mission-readiness.
Documentation & Collaboration
Prepare technical documentation, research reports, and design specifications.
Mentor junior engineers and collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver production-ready solutions.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
Bachelors/Masters/PhD in Robotics, Control Systems, Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering, or related field.
4+ years of experience in pathplanning & Controls- motion planning & control.
Strong background in robotics fundamentals , kinematics, dynamics, and control theory.
Hands-on experience with path/motion planning algorithms (A*, MPC, RRT, RRT*, D*, spline-based planning, trajectory optimization).
Proven expertise in motion control , feedback control, and real-time implementation.
Strong command of C++ (modern C++ preferred) and experience with software development best practices.
Experience with ROS/ROS2 , simulations, and Linux environments.
Exposure to defense or autonomous vehicles is a plus.
