Senior QA Test Engineer - Data migration and integration - Chennai - Contractor in USD

For an international project in Chennai, we are urgently looking for a Senior QA Test Engineer.

We are looking for a motivated contractor. This position is long-term. Candidates need to be fluent in English.

Tasks and responsibilities:

• Collaborate with business analysts, data architects, and developers to understand migration/integration requirements and data flows;
• Define a comprehensive test strategy tailored to data migration and integration;
• Create a detailed QA test plan covering functional, non-functional, regression, and reconciliation testing;
• Identify and document test environments, test tools, data sets, and dependencies;
• Design test cases/scenarios for:
• Source-to-target data mapping validation;
• Transformation logic verification;
• Data completeness checks;
• Referential integrity checks;
• Define data sampling strategies (random sampling, edge cases, high-value records, large volumes);
• Prepare synthetic and anonymized test data where needed;
• Document expected results for each test case, including SQL validation scripts;
• Execute manual and automated tests for migration batches and integration workflows;
• Use SQL queries, ETL tool logs, API response validations, and reconciliation reports to verify requirements;
• Perform volume/stress testing for large data sets and high-frequency integrations;
• Validate incremental loads, delta migrations, and real-time sync behavior;
• Test rollback and recovery procedures for failed migrations or integrations;
• Log defects in the defect tracking tool (e.g., Jira, Azure DevOps, HP ALM) with detailed root cause evidence;
• Reconcile row counts and key business metrics pre- and post-migration;
• Perform cross-application consistency checks for integrated data;
• Verify audit trails, logging, and monitoring mechanisms;
• Validate data security, masking, and compliance requirements;
• Design and implement automated validation scripts in SQL, Python, or using QA automation tools;
• Optimize regression testing using automation frameworks;

Profile:

• Bachelor or Master degree;
• +8 years experience in a development /testing role;
• Experienced IT professional working on large data and reporting applications as well a strong understanding of Operational data stores, Data Warehouses and/or Data Mart;
• Strong SQL query skills for complex data validation and reconciliation;
• Deep understanding of ETL processes, data models, and API integrations;
• Experience in large-scale data migration QA (multi-million record volumes);
• Familiarity with data profiling, cleansing, and quality tools;
• Proficiency in QA tools (HP ALM, Jira, Azure DevOps, Selenium, etc.);
• Knowledge of data governance, data privacy regulations (GDPR, HIPAA, etc.);
• Strong troubleshooting and defect analysis skills;
• Fluent in English;
