Job Description Sr. Engineer (Piping)

Location: Chennai

Industry: Oil & Gas

Experience: 8+ Years

Mandatory Requirement: Experience in Upstream Oil & Gas projects is a must.

A) Role Summary

Execute piping engineering activities for assigned projects while leading a dedicated team of 4 to 8 engineers/designers. The role may involve handling a complete small project or specific areas within a large project.

B) Key Responsibilities

1. Project Delivery & Coordination

1. Act as Single Point of Contact (SPOC) with full accountability for quality and ontime delivery of all piping activities for the assigned project/area.
2. Participate in Design Reviews and ensure engineering compliance.
3. Coordinate with the Onsite Project Coordinator for technical and execution-related matters.

2. Support to Piping Lead

1. Assist Piping Lead in preparing proposals, manhour estimates, and bid inputs.
2. Support with manpower forecasts, gap analysis, and harmonizing allocation of shared resources.
3. Assist in project scheduling, including managing extensions or rebaselining requirements.
4. Support in managing interdiscipline interfaces (Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, Process, etc.).
5. Contribute to claims related to rework, extra work, idle time, etc.

3. Quality, Efficiency & Technical Guidance

1. Ensure uniformity and efficiency in design philosophies; contribute through regular feedback and lessons learned.
2. Address and resolve technical queries raised by team members and ensure smooth execution.

C) Required Technical Skills / Knowledge Base

1. Handson experience in key piping deliverables:

• Plot Plan
• Equipment Layout
• Piping Layout
• Piping MTO
• Piping Isometrics
• Pipe Supports

1. Good understanding of 3D modelbased detail engineering, including 3D admin interfaces.
2. Basic understanding of piping stress analysis concepts.
3. Strong understanding of interdisciplinary coordination.
4. Familiarity with relevant industry codes and standards (ASME, API, etc.).
5. Exposure to Brownfield / Turnaround / MOC projects involving existing facility tie-ins.
6. Strong proficiency in MS Excel, Word, PowerPoint, MS Paint.
7. Good English communication skills (both written and verbal).

D) Mandatory Experience

Experience in Upstream Oil & Gas Projects is a MUST, including:

• Wellheads
• Flowlines
• Gathering stations
• Offshore/Onshore upstream facilities
• Associated piping and layouts

E) Added Advantage (Preferred Skills)

a. Overall awareness of project lifecycle and detailed piping engineering workflows.

b. Experience in subcontracting technical scope.

c. Exposure to site assignments during construction/commissioning.

d. Working with Laser Scan Inputs.

e. Experience, in Piping Material Specification and Valve procurement.

f. Working knowledge of 3D modeling tools (AVEVA E3D, PDMS, SP3D, etc.).
