Role Description

This is a contract-based, remote role for a Senior Optical Network Engineer specializing in Nokia optical transport platforms , including the 1830 PSS / NFM-T. The role involves designing, integrating, testing, and optimizing large-scale optical networks. You will lead migration, cutover, and modernization initiatives while ensuring high availability, performance, and security across customer environments.

You will collaborate closely with architecture, operations, and field teams to deliver reliable, scalable, and future-ready optical infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities

Network Design & Engineering

• Design, validate, and optimize Nokia-based DWDM and optical transport networks
• Support network architecture, capacity planning, and modernization initiatives
• Translate business and technical requirements into executable network designs
• Perform wavelength planning, route engineering, and protection schemes

Migration, Cutover & Integration

• Lead and support hot cut span rolls and circuit migrations
• Plan and execute live network cutovers with minimal customer impact
• Provide multi-phase design, integration, and migration support
• Coordinate with NOC, field teams, and project stakeholders during maintenance windows

MOP Development & Execution

• Develop detailed Methods of Procedure (MOPs) and rollback plans
• Execute MOPs during scheduled maintenance windows (remote execution)
• Ensure compliance with change management and operational standards

Network Assessment & Analysis

• Conduct network audits, data collection, and optical performance analysis
• Evaluate existing infrastructure for upgrade and optimization opportunities
• Identify risks, dependencies, and remediation strategies

Nokia Management & Tools

• Deploy and integrate Nokia management platforms (e.g., NSP, NFM-T, or equivalent)
• Support system validation, commissioning, and operational handoff
• Provide post-migration stabilization and troubleshooting support

Documentation & Reporting

• Produce design documents, migration plans, and close-out reports
• Maintain clear communication with internal teams and customers
• Support knowledge transfer and operational readiness

Required Qualifications

• Minimum 5+ years of experience designing and supporting optical transport networks
• Proven expertise with Nokia 1830 PSS / NFM-T
• Hands-on experience with:
• Hot cut span rolls and live network migrations
• Circuit grooming and wavelength provisioning
• Optical transport integration and modernization projects
• Strong experience developing and executing MOPs and rollback procedures
• Experience with SoW/requirements analysis, data collection, and network audits
• Working knowledge of Nokia network management and provisioning tools
• Strong understanding of DWDM, ROADM, coherent optics, and optical-layer networking
• Ability to work during maintenance windows (nights/weekends) as required

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience supporting Tier-1 Service Providers or large-scale enterprise networks
• Familiarity with regulated, mission-critical, or carrier-grade environments
• Experience with multi-vendor optical environments (Nokia, Ciena, Infinera, Cisco, etc.)
• Strong troubleshooting skills across optical, photonic, and transport layers
• Excellent communication, documentation, and stakeholder coordination skills
• Relevant Nokia certifications (NRS, Optical Specialist, or equivalent) preferred
