Senior Manager-Engineering Software Asset Management (SAM)Role

Overview

We are seeking a senior leader to own and drive enterprise-wide optimization and governance of engineering software tools. This is a Software Asset Managementled role with accountability for cost optimization, license governance, and commercial outcomes, supported by strong knowledge of engineering tools and workflows.

The role serves as the single point of ownership for the engineering tools portfolio, partnering with Engineering, IT, Procurement, Finance, and Security to deliver measurable savings while enabling engineering productivity.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead a global, cross-functional program across Engineering, IT, Procurement, Finance, and Security.
• Own the engineering software tools portfolio , including inventory, usage transparency, and governance.
• Establish a single source of truth covering:
• Tools, vendors, contracts, renewals, and owners
• License entitlements vs. assignments vs. actual usage
• Drive cost optimization and value realization through:
• License re-harvesting and right-sizing
• Shelfware elimination
• Tool rationalization and consolidation
• Vendor renegotiation and contract optimization
• Define and implement governance including:
• Tool intake and approval processes
• Approved / restricted / deprecated tool standards
• Renewal cadence and vendor management
• Chargeback / showback mechanisms
• Lead strategic engagements with engineering software vendors and partner with Procurement on global agreements and pricing.
• Provide executive-level reporting on savings, risk, and portfolio health.

Required Experience

• 15+ years across Software Asset Management, IT Asset Management, Engineering IT, or Technology Services.
• Strong exposure to engineering software ecosystems:
• CAD / CAE / Simulation
• PLM and engineering data platforms
• Developer and collaboration tools
• Proven experience leading large-scale, global optimization or transformation programs .
• Hands-on background in license optimization, portfolio rationalization, or enterprise SAM initiatives.
• Solid understanding of engineering workflows and user personas.
