About the Company

Waaree is expanding its Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) business across utility-scale and commercial & industrial segments. As BESS projects scale in size and complexity, accurate system design, technical configuration, and cost modelling for the entire BESS project is critical for winning bids and protecting margins.

About the Role

The Senior Manager System Design & Costing (BESS) will own end-to-end system architecture, technical configuration, and cost modelling for BESS projects, covering battery systems, PCS, balance-of-system design & equipment. This role acts as the single owner of technical and cost assumptions during the bid and proposal stage, ensuring that solutions offered are technically compliant, commercially accurate, and executable.

Responsibilities

System Design & Architecture

Define overall system architecture for BESS projects across utility-scale and C&I applications

Finalise technical configuration covering:

Battery containers / racks

PCS selection and sizing

Transformers, switchgear, protection systems, metering, and auxiliary systems up to the POI

Own sizing philosophy, design assumptions, and technical compliance for bids

Review and approve SLDs, layouts, and system-level design documentation

Costing & Commercial Support

Own complete project-level cost models covering:

BESS equipment and auxiliaries

Electrical systems and infrastructure from PCS up to the POI

Installation, testing, commissioning, logistics, duties, and contingencies

Prepare and validate BOMs, cost sheets, and pricing inputs for bids

Work closely with sourcing and procurement teams to validate vendor pricing

Support sales teams with margin analysis and sensitivity scenarios

Standardisation & Value Engineering

Develop standard system configurations and reference designs for faster bid turnaround

Drive value engineering initiatives to optimise system cost while meeting performance and safety requirements

Create cost benchmarks for different project sizes, grid conditions, and use cases

Bid Review & Risk Management

Participate in bid review meetings to validate technical and cost assumptions

Identify key technical, execution, and commercial risks related to design and POI integration

Provide recommendations on risk mitigation and pricing strategy

Cross-Functional Coordination

Work closely with pre-sales, sales, sourcing, and project execution teams

Ensure smooth technical handover from bid stage to execution

Support execution teams during early project stages to maintain design intent and cost assumptions

Knowledge Management & Team Development

Build internal capability in BESS system design and costing

Mentor junior engineers and pre-sales team members

Develop internal design standards, costing templates, and technical playbook

Qualifications

Bachelors degree in Electrical / Power / Energy Engineering (Masters preferred)

812 years of experience in power systems, renewables, or energy infrastructure

At least 35 years of direct experience in BESS system design, solution engineering, or pre-sales

Strong exposure to system integration and costing up to the Point of Injection

Required Skills

BESS system architecture and operating philosophy

Battery technologies (LFP / NMC), degradation, and lifecycle modelling

PCS characteristics and system limits

Electrical systems, protection philosophy, and grid interconnection up to POI

Applicable standards, certifications, and grid requirements

Preferred Skills

Experience with project management tools and methodologies

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
