Position Title: Senior Manager Engineering

Position Purpose:

We are seeking for people who are excited in re-imagining the grocery experience by harnessing the power of AI and digital technologies. The Supply Chain Data Engineering team uses a decoupled and near real time data integration paradigm to make data available to improve all aspects of supply chain lifecycle.

You will be responsible for designing, developing, testing and managing large scale, high-performance data processing systems (batch and/or streaming) in a Multi Cloud environment to provide a robust analytical pipeline with a strong focus on Google Big Query and other Google Cloud Platform (GCP) services.

The candidate will have a background in computer science or a related technical field with experiences working with high volume, message-based data integration technologies. A successful candidate will be both technically strong and business savvy, with a passion to make an impact through creative storytelling and timely actions. You are a self-starter, smart yet humble, with a bias for action.

Key Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Build and lead a high-performing Supply Chain Data Engineering Team to architect, design and develop secure, scalable and reliable data solutions that support the evolving needs of the business.
• Provide technical leadership in Data Engineering practices. Partner with architecture, Infosec, and development teams across the entire enterprise to establish a strong relationship and trust for prioritizing and delivering projects on time and with a high degree of quality.
• Establish patterns for re-use, standards and best practices for Data Engineering & Analytics such that data timeliness and quality are maximized.
• Partner with the Audit, Compliance and Governance leaders to ensure data is secured and conforms to the guidelines laid out by the organization and the industry.
• Partner with cross-functional teams to deliver large scale strategic projects as well as ongoing operational activities related to Big Data Platform. Interface with cross functional leaders and represent point of views to drive measurable success.
• Drive meetings and lead discussions. Prioritize projects across the team and allocate resources to meet business and team goals.
• Provide technical leadership for the development and maintenance of robust ETL pipelines leveraging Python, Google Cloud Dataflow, and related technologies.
• Guide the management of data ingestion and transformation workflows using platforms such as Google Cloud Composer or Stone branch, ensuring operational efficiency and compliance.
• Ensure effective use of Google Cloud Storage (GCS) for data staging, lifecycle management, and archival in alignment with data governance standards.
• Lead the design and implementation of scalable data models and enterprise data warehousing solutions that support analytics, reporting, and business critical use cases.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams using Agile methodologies (Epics, Stories, Standups, Retrospectives).
• Document data processes and flows using Confluence.
• Track and manage tasks using Jira.
• Self-starter, with a demonstrated ability to learn beyond formal training with a strong aptitude for delivering quality products.
• Ability to work with teams that are geographically distributed and work across different time zones
• Provide guidance to less experienced team members and/or resolve highly complex production problems.
• Uphold and support documentation standards, procedures and approval hierarchies.

Qualifications:

• Bachelors in computer science with management experience in building and leading data engineering teams
• Track record of guiding teams through unstructured technical problems to deliver business impact. Ability to partner and translate high-level business objectives into actions
• Skilled at running cross-functional relationships and communicating with leadership across multiple organizations

Skills Required:

• Advanced proficiency in SQL.
• Experience with Python (or another scripting language) and automation.
• Experience with GCP services: Big Query, GCS, Dataflow, and Cloud Composer. BigQuery experience is highly preferred.
• Strong understanding of data/ canonical modelling, ETL processes, and data warehousing concepts.
• Experience with streaming systems such as Kafka.
• Familiarity with version control systems like Git.
• Proven experience working in Agile environments.
• Strong project management skills, with the ability to plan, prioritize, and oversee complex data initiatives end to end.
• Experience in the Retail domain (Supply Chain experience is a plus), with the ability to understand functional contexts and guide teams in building impactful data solutions.

Nice to Have:

• Experience with Power BI or ThoughtSpot for data visualization and analytics.
• Exposure to other cloud platforms, especially Microsoft Azure.
• Awareness of Snowflake, Oracle, and DB2.
• Expertise in AI, preferably in the context of data engineering.
• Experience with Stone branch for job scheduling.
• Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices.
