  • Strong knowledge of IT control frameworks and experience operationalising them across complex technology estates.
  • Solid experience in control governance, including managing controls assurance processes.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform control applicability mapping, and coordinate onboarding of services/products to existing controls or instantiate new ones as required.
  • Strong understanding of cloud technologies (AWS, Azure, GCP) and associated control requirements in modern DevOps or DevSecOps environments.
  • Ability to define, govern, and continuously improve control compliance frameworks, with experience in designing control processes and artefacts.

  • Problem-Solving Skills: Excellent analytical and critical thinking skills, with a strong track record of resolving complex control, governance, or assurance-related challenges.
  • Stakeholder Management: Proven ability to influence and collaborate across multi-disciplinary teams, including product, engineering, risk, audit, and compliance.
  • Control and Risk Literacy: Strong understanding of risk management principles, with the ability to connect control activities to business risk exposure and risk mitigation outcomes.

Preferred Qualifications: CISA, CRISC, CGEIT, CDPSE, CCSK or similar.

Detailed Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and operationalise a scalable Control Compliance Framework across Cloud and Productivity Engineering.
  • Build and lead a high-performing team responsible for control governance, assurance readiness, and lifecycle ownership.
  • Define and embed processes for managing the full lifecycle of both central and local controls, including design, ownership, applicability, testing, evidence, and remediation.
  • Lead control applicability mapping for all products, platforms, and services based on risk profile, regulatory alignment, and service architecture.
  • Accountable to ensure products and services are onboarded to appropriate existing enterprise controls, or coordinate the design and instantiation of new controls where gaps exist.
  • Collaborate with product and engineering teams to embed controls early in the delivery lifecycle and align to SDLC and CI/CD practices.
  • Provide oversight of control assurance activity, including design and operating effectiveness testing, working closely with control owners and assurance teams.
  • Maintain a single source of truth for control records, including ownership, applicability, status, and supporting evidence.
  • Analyse assurance outcomes, identify thematic weaknesses, and drive control maturity improvements across the estate.
  • Support control-related reporting to governance forums, risk committees, and senior stakeholders through dashboards and metrics.

Role Impact

This role is central to strengthening the control environment across Cloud and Productivity Engineering by embedding a sustainable and transparent approach to control compliance. Through the establishment of a dedicated team and framework, it ensures that controls - both central and local - are effectively designed, implemented, and assured across the technology estate. Ultimately, this position enables risk-informed decision-making and builds organisational confidence in the resilience and maturity of our control landscape.
