What Youll Be Doing (Position Summary):

The Senior Manager, Application Development is accountable for managing multiple development projects, development groups, and application support functions for a major line of business. This role applies professional expertise to oversee the development, testing, and implementation of organization-wide systems, while leading, motivating, and developing staff to maximize their individual contributions and team effectiveness. The Senior Manager ensures best practice development techniques in alignment with CIBC technology standards and collaborates with business partners to deliver application programs that promote business improvement.

How Youll Succeed (Responsibilities):

Operational Excellence & Technology Management:

  • Oversee the development, testing, and implementation of organization-wide systems to ensure alignment with CIBC technology standards.
  • Monitor service levels, analyze operating environments, and implement corrective actions to improve quality and efficiency.
  • Manage technology platforms, including support, enhancements, and maintaining currency of software and hardware versions.


People Management:

  • Set appropriate context when assigning work to ensure that individuals roles support the achievement of the business units priorities and CIBCs overall goals.
  • Build team and individual capabilities by providing development opportunities such as job shadowing, special projects, and training.
  • Manage performance by providing fair and accurate formal and informal feedback, identifying and removing obstacles to performance, and explaining how performance expectations align with business priorities.
  • Create a positive work environment and be an effective role model by championing CIBCs mission, vision, and values.
  • Ensure compliance with policies, standards, guidelines, and controls by applying the policies and controls fairly and consistently so employees understand what to expect.
  • Hire the right people in the right jobs to align individual capabilities with job requirements and business unit goals.
  • Lead and coach a high-performing team, maximizing contributions and fostering professional growth.


Relationship Management:

  • Work closely with clients and business partners to develop, test, and implement application programs, advising application owners on technology possibilities and requirements.
  • Establish and maintain effective cross-functional relationships to coordinate project deliverables and resolve business issues.


Resource & Change Management:

  • Manage resource time, availability, and monthly allocations / project charges.
  • Coordinate and manage troubleshooting sessions for production incidents, including ServiceNow change and incident management.
  • Prioritize work effectively and manage the teams deliverables to meet project and business objectives.


Knowledge Acquisition:

  • Quickly gain understanding of various TechOps support groups and functions to ensure effective team integration and support.


Experience: 10+ years of experience


Who You Are (Skills / Qualifications):

Must Have Skills:

  • Degree or diploma in Computer Science, Business, or a related field.
  • 5-8 years experience leading a team of developers, with hands-on expertise in software design using SDLC principles.
  • Knowledge of technology platform management, application development, and support functions.
  • Understanding of Cyber Security solutions is an asset.
  • Familiarity with Agile methodology and experience working in a Scrum team is preferred.
  • Strong leadership, coaching, and people development abilities.
  • Excellent communication, relationship management, and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to analyze service levels and operating environments, and recommend effective solutions.
  • Proficient in change and incident management, including ServiceNow.
  • Effective work prioritization and team deliverable management.
  • Bold, authentic leadership style with a commitment to CIBCs values of trust, teamwork, and accountability.
