Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Kong API Gateway Engineer with 58 years of experience in API Management and enterprise integration. The ideal candidate will be responsible for designing, implementing, securing, and managing APIs using Kong Gateway within a microservices architecture. The candidate should possess strong expertise in API governance, security implementation, performance tuning, and production support, preferably within banking or fintech environments.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, configure, and manage APIs using Kong API Gateway.
• Implement authentication and authorization mechanisms including JWT, OAuth2, Key Authentication, and mTLS.
• Configure rate limiting, throttling, IP restrictions, and CORS policies.
• Manage Kong services, routes, consumers, and plugins.
• Develop declarative configuration files (YAML) in DB-less or Hybrid mode.
• Develop custom Kong plugins using Lua (if required).
• Deploy and manage Kong in Docker and Kubernetes environments.
• Integrate Kong with backend microservices (Spring Boot, Node.js, etc.).
• Implement logging and monitoring using ELK, Prometheus, Grafana, or Datadog.
• Troubleshoot production incidents and manage SSL/mTLS certificates.
• Ensure API governance, versioning standards, and compliance documentation.

Required Technical Skills

• Strong hands-on experience with Kong Gateway.
• Service & Route configuration, Consumer and Plugin management.
• OAuth2, OIDC, JWT validation, mTLS.
• REST APIs and Microservices architecture.
• Docker, Kubernetes, CI/CD pipelines.
• Monitoring tools: ELK, Prometheus, Grafana.

Preferred Skills

• Banking or Fintech domain experience.
• Experience with WSO2 ESB or other API gateways.
• Kafka and event-driven architecture knowledge.
• Cloud exposure (AWS/Azure).
• API lifecycle management and governance frameworks.
