Role Description:
Calix is looking for a technically strong engineer with experience in deploying and running workloads in a private/hybrid cloud infrastructure leveraging various virtualization tools including VMWare, Containers, and Kubernetes focused on supporting a high performing product development and testing organization. Engineering Infrastructure Operations delivers infrastructure services supporting the development of next-generation networking and SaaS products. The ideal candidate has in-depth experience with converged infrastructure running hypervisors, Kubernetes, containerized applications, and Linux. This candidate will be fully versed in the architecture and systems required to install, run, and manage a resilient environment in either bare-metal, or hypervisor virtualized infrastructure. Automation and removal of toil will be paramount to the success of this role. Therefore, knowledge of processes, technologies, infrastructure-as-code and associated development tools/languages, and applications used by service delivery organizations are a must for this candidate.
Responsibilities:
Hybrid Cloud Infrastructure Design: Design and implement scalable cloud infrastructure using VMware, Containers, on Linux, and/or Kubernetes (K8s).
Automation and Scripting: Write Python scripts to automate tasks, integrate with REST APIs, and utilize JSON/YAML configurations.
Infrastructure as Code (IaC): Implement Terraform/Ansible for infrastructure provisioning and management.
Monitoring, Alerting, Logging & Audit: Design and implement monitoring solutions, response automation and failure analysis.
Security and Compliance: Ensure compliance with security best practices and regulatory requirements.
Collaboration and Mentoring: Collaborate with cross-functional teams and mentor junior engineers in DevOps practices.
End-to-End Automation: Design and implement end-to-end automation for alerts and toil management using tools like Ansible, Terraform.
Reporting and Analytics: Provide insights into alert and toil management metrics using data visualization tools like Grafana and Tableau.
Develop and document processes, procedures and inventory of assets.
Collaborate with development teams to ensure compatibility and efficiency of deployment pipelines and application performance.
Required Qualifications & Skills:
Certification in Kubernetes, e.g. CKA
Certification in LINUX
APIs and application integration methods
IP networking, IP6 and IP4, virtual networking (VLANs, Subnets, Routing, DNS, MAC Filtering)
Knowledgeable in virtualized environments using common hypervisors like VMWare, KVM, or Hyper-V.
Knowledgeable in automation technologies and scripting (Ansible, Chef, Puppet, Bash, Perl, Python, etc.)
Experienced with IT service management, ITIL methodology
User identity, access, authorization (LDAP, Active Directory, Redhat Identity Manager)
Software development methods (Agile /Lean Agile, Scrum)
Focused on secure solutions and cybersecurity practices
Experience & Education: 8 to 12 years of exp with Bachelor degree
