Senior Consultant, Team Lead – Investment Performance Attribution role will be responsible for the calculation of Performance, Attribution and GIPS composites across a wide range of investment portfolios and fund products with focus on accuracy and timeliness of the returns. The individual will be responsible for oversight of Performance and attribution team, strong collaboration with the global team and active involvement in projects and building solutions. The individual sought will be a thought leader and analytically proficient based upon prior experience and expertise, also demonstrate people management skill for a diverse global team in multiple locations.
The scope of responsibilities will include regular communication with the global Performance and Attribution team to manage data quality and create scale. This role will act in partnership with practice groups including Portfolio Management, Product Management, Sales and Marketing, Investment Operations, and others from the Performance & Attribution team. The role will also involve identifying, solutioning, and championing digital and automation initiatives to transform operational effectiveness and responsiveness to achieve scale while expanding upon the team’s current core functional output.
KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Act as a subject matter expert on Global Investment Performance Standards (GIPS), Investment Performance Measurement, Attribution, investment performance analytics, and drive excellence across this practice. Responsibilities include:
Provides clients with consulting on complex performance capabilities to evaluate the performance of various investment vehicles in the client’s plans/funds and monitor the guidelines for the Investments managers.
Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams such as Product, PMs, Internal Controls, Legal and performance to assess the current state and architect the future state of global operating models, processes, and capabilities to successfully support evolving business needs related to GIPS and Performance.
Assess service level agreements and suggest improvements to create a robust governance and control framework to ensure the delivery of timely and accurate GIPS composites and marketing materials.
Participate in the development of calculation and reporting data governance standards that are agreed and leveraged across global teams to ensure data quality.
Oversee existing and prospective applications (proprietary and vended) to ensure fit-for-purpose platforms.
Stay informed of regulatory and industry requirements that may impact data elements required for presentation to clients and prospects.
Proactively identify and implement improvements to existing processes to further gain operational efficiency and productivity.
Collaborates with the wider analyst teams and delegate tasks appropriately to ensure deadlines are met.
Participate in global management team, representing the region to regularly propose solutions and/or suggestions to improve level of client service.
Maintain strong working relationship with internal support groups across the practice and provide SME input into strategic plans.
Manages an analytical group, including conducting the performance management process and providing input for staffing and disciplinary actions and provides hands on training to staff.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
Detailed understanding of the Performance and methodologies, asset management business, with expertise in fixed income, equity and multi-asset strategies. Familiarity of Alternative investment process, performance and attribution analysis are complimentary to the role.
Strong organizational, written, and verbal client servicing skills required. Must have excellent time management, interpersonal and multi-tasking skills
Ability to multitask, meet deadlines, adapt to change, and willing to overcome obstacles to accomplish goal.
Knowledge/experience with Aladdin, Eagle, Bloomberg, FactSet, MSCI Index Monitor, NT PACE, Custom Hierarchy, RADAR, Data Direct, and Integrated Reporting preferred.
Independent self-starter with an excellence in execution while ability to thrive in a collaborative team environment; possess excellent interpersonal skills to liaise with internal & external stakeholders.
Must be a critical thinker with excellent communication skills for presenting, listening, and writing functions. Strong presentation skills with ability to explain complex ideas at a high level
Understanding of how a client’s data flows through Northern Trust systems is preferred
Ability to problem-solve, develop and evaluate solutions while planning and prioritizing client activities to manage relationships effectively.
Proactively determine client needs or issues by asking insightful questions and developing the client relationship while effectively managing client and business partner expectations.
EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION
Master's degree: CFA and/or CIPM designation strongly preferred.
At least 9+ years of work experience in hands-on experience in Investment Performance, GIPS and Attribution and working with Product functions to support the publishing of official investment performance and marketing materials.
Extensive understanding of the asset management industry, with a demonstrated track record within the performance and analytics space at a mid-to-large investment management firm.
Demonstrate substantial understanding of performance measurement methodologies, including performance analytics and attribution
Proficiency with investment as well as reporting and analytic tools and databases.
Prior project and people management experience preferred.
Eligibility:
2 years of experience as Consultant/Team Lead or existing people management experience
