Senior Business Intelligence Developer

Purpose of Position:

Were hiring a Lead Looker Developer to lead the design of our semantic layer and analytics platform. You will own Looker architecture, mentor developers, set standards for data modeling and governance, and partner with product and business leaders to deliver high-value insights at scale.

Key Result Areas and Activities:

• Architect Looker semantic layers: model hierarchy, naming, authorization, and reusable components.
• Design enterprise-grade LookML with versioning, testing, and CI/CD; enforce coding standards.
• Lead data modeling (dimensional, semantic metrics layer, surrogate keys, SCDs).
• Implement performance frameworks: PDT strategy, aggregates, incremental loads, query tuning.
• Own data governance in Looker: folders, roles, content validations, lifecycle management.
• Establish observability: usage analytics via System Activity, data SLAs, content health dashboards.
• Drive stakeholder engagement: requirements discovery, metric definitions, analytic design reviews.
• Mentor team members; conduct reviews of LookML, dashboards, and SQL.
• Partner with data engineering on pipelines (dbt/Fivetran/Airflow) and warehouse optimization.
• Lead initiatives for self service analytics, documentation, and training programs.
• Manage roadmap for analytics feature delivery and platform improvements.

Work and Technical Experience:

Essential Skills:

• 6+ years Looker with advanced LookML expertise.
• Deep SQL proficiency and performance tuning on Snowflake/BigQuery/Redshift/Databricks.
• Proven experience with Git, branching strategies, and CI/CD for analytics.
• Strong understanding of semantic metric layers, dimensional modeling, and data contracts.
• Track record of leading cross-functional projects and stakeholder communication.
• Experience setting governance frameworks and access control for enterprise analytics.

Desirable Skills:

• Automation using Looker API/SDK, content validators, or custom scripts.
• Experience with dbt, Fivetran, Airflow, and data quality frameworks (Great Expectations).
• Embedded analytics, customer-facing dashboards, or multi-tenant models.
• Prior experience in a lead/manager role; mentoring and team leadership.

Qualification:

• Bachelors degree in computer science, Information Technology, or a related field
• 8+ years of experience in BI Analytics
