Senior Business Analyst - Reporting

The Senior Business Analyst will serve as a key member of the Information Management & Analytics team, responsible for driving high-quality business intelligence solutions using Cognos, Power BI, and related data platforms. This role partners closely with business stakeholders, data engineers, and technical teams to translate business needs into actionable insights, robust reporting, and scalable analytics capabilities.

The ideal candidate combines strong analytical skills, deep reporting expertise, and the ability to lead complex initiatives from concept to delivery.

Key Responsibilities

Business Analysis & Requirements Gathering

Collaborate with business units to understand reporting needs, KPIs, and data requirements.

Facilitate workshops, interviews, and process reviews to document functional and technical requirements.

Translate business needs into detailed specifications for reporting, dashboards, and data models.

Evaluate existing reporting processes and recommend improvements or automation opportunities.

Reporting & Analytics Development

Design, develop, and maintain enterprise-grade reports and dashboards using Cognos Analytics and Power BI.

Build data models, datasets, and semantic layers to support self-service analytics.

Ensure reporting solutions follow best practices for performance, usability, and data governance.

Conduct data validation and quality checks to ensure accuracy and reliability of outputs.

Project Leadership & Stakeholder Management

Lead reporting initiatives from discovery through deployment, ensuring alignment with business priorities.

Serve as a subject-matter expert for Cognos and Power BI capabilities, guiding stakeholders on optimal solutions.

Manage expectations, timelines, and communication across cross-functional teams.

Provide mentorship and support to junior analysts and reporting developers.

Data Governance & Quality

Partner with data engineering and governance teams to ensure data definitions, lineage, and standards are maintained.

Identify data quality issues and work with technical teams to resolve root causes.

Promote consistent use of enterprise metrics and reporting frameworks.

Support & Continuous Improvement

Troubleshoot reporting issues and provide Tier-2 support for Cognos and Power BI users.

Monitor system performance and recommend enhancements or optimizations.

Stay current with BI industry trends, new Cognos/Power BI features, and emerging analytics technologies.

Qualifications Required

Bachelors degree in business, Information Systems, Data Analytics, or related field.

7+ years of experience as a Business Analyst or BI Analyst.

Hands-on experience with Reporting tools

Demonstrated ability to translate business requirements into technical specifications.

SQL skills and familiarity with relational databases or data warehouses.

Excellent communication, facilitation, and stakeholder-management skills.

Proven ability to lead projects and work independently in a fast-paced environment.
