Senior Backend Engineer (Python) & Technical Lead

About the Role

We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Backend Engineer & Technical Lead to anchor this team.

This role requires deep expertise in Python, advanced SQL, and database architecture. You will be responsible for designing scalable backend systems, enforcing engineering discipline, reviewing code quality, and ensuring performance and data integrity across our multi-tenant platform.

This is a hands-on technical leadership role. You will work directly with the CTO and core architecture team while gradually building and guiding a team of backend engineers around you.

Key Responsibilities

Design and architect scalable backend systems using Python and FastAPI.

Own database architecture, schema design, indexing strategies, and query optimisation.

Write highly efficient and complex SQL queries for large-scale, multi-tenant systems.

Ensure strong data isolation, integrity, and performance across tenants.

Review backend code written by team members and enforce engineering best practices.

Guide mid-level developers in system design, performance tuning, and debugging.

Identify architectural gaps and proactively suggest structural improvements.

Work closely with AI engineers to integrate workflows into backend services.

Ensure backend systems are secure, robust, and production ready.

Participate in architectural discussions and long-term platform planning.

Maintain high technical standards across the backend team.

Skills & Experience Required

10+ years of backend development experience with strong Python expertise.

Deep hands on experience with FastAPI (required).

Advanced PostgreSQL expertise including indexing, query optimisation, execution planning, partitioning, and performance tuning.

Strong database design and schema modelling capability for complex enterprise systems.

Expert level SQL skills. Ability to design and optimise complex joins, aggregations, and large data operations.

Strong understanding of multi-tenant architecture and data isolation.

Solid understanding of REST APIs, asynchronous programming, and microservice architecture.

• .Experience integrating external APIs and AI models (LLMs preferred).

Strong knowledge of system design, scalability principles, and backend performance optimisation.

Proven experience mentoring engineers and reviewing production-level code.

Strong analytical and debugging capability.
