We are intentionally assembling a small, high-calibre core team to build the foundations right.

As a Senior Backend Engineer , you will own and shape the core backend systems of the platform. This role is central to the product - you will design systems that power a multi-sided marketplace involving users, companies, payments, hiring workflows, and referrals.

Were looking for someone who cares deeply about clean architecture, extensibility, and ownership , and wants to build foundational systems that will evolve significantly over time.

Primary Responsibilities

• Design and build scalable backend services using Node.js and NestJS
• Own and implement core business logic for marketplace workflows (tasks, hiring, job pools, subscriptions, payouts)
• Design clean, extensible REST APIs and service boundaries
• Architect and manage databases using PostgreSQL and MongoDB
• Implement caching, background jobs, and async workflows using Redis
• Ensure secure authentication, authorization, and role-based access control
• Design event-driven systems and data flows to support future insights and analytics
• Collaborate closely with product and mobile/frontend engineers to define clear contracts
• Review and improve backend architecture built during the MVP phase
• Take ownership of production stability, performance, and data integrity

Secondary Responsibilities

• Occasionally contribute to frontend integration (e.g., API consumption, Next.js) when required
• Support internal teams as backend logic evolves (referrals, matching, insights)

What Were Looking For:

Must-Have

• 58+ years of backend engineering experience
• Strong experience with Node.js and NestJS
• Experience designing systems for marketplaces, platforms, or SaaS products
• Solid understanding of relational and NoSQL databases (PostgreSQL, MongoDB)
• Experience with Redis , queues, and background processing
• Strong API design and system design skills
• Comfort working with Docker, CI/CD, and cloud environments
• Ability to think in terms of systems, trade-offs, and long-term maintainability
• Ownership mindset - you care about what you build beyond just shipping code

Nice-to-Have

• Experience working on fintech, payments, or subscription systems
• Familiarity with event-driven or microservice-style architectures
• Exposure to modern frontend frameworks (Next.js / React)
• Startup or early-stage product experience
