About the Team and the Role

The Vehicle Data Platform (VDP) team at Ather is responsible for the critical core that ingests, processes, and exposes massive data streams generated by the fleet to power rider-facing features and business intelligence.

This role is for a seasoned Application Developer Lead who will own the technical direction, development, and operational stability of this high-throughput, event-driven platform. You will blend deep hands-on expertise with technical leadership to guide the team in building a system that is scalable, reliable, and continuously evolving.

Responsibilities

• Lead end-to-end technical design and architectural decisions for the VDP, ensuring solutions are scalable, reliable, and performant.

• Maintain a deep, hands-on understanding of core technologies including Java, Kafka, SQL, Redis, and MongoDB.

• Serve as the primary technical liaison between the VDP team and consuming teams such as App Development, BI, and Cloud Infrastructure.

• Partner with Product Management to refine requirements and ensure technical solutions align with the product vision and business needs.

• Define the technical roadmap, strategic goals, and execution themes for Program Increments while leading sprint planning.

• Drive the development of robust backend services and RESTful APIs while enforcing best practices for code quality and testing.

• Provide day-to-day technical guidance, coaching, and mentorship to engineers to foster a culture of technical excellence.

• Act as the primary technical escalation point for troubleshooting and resolving critical production incidents and driving root cause analysis.

Experience and Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science or a related engineering field.

• 4 to 7 years of relevant programming and software development experience, focusing on cloud-native and data-intensive applications.

Must Have Competencies

• Demonstrate proven, hands-on development expertise in the Java ecosystem (Core Java, Spring Boot) or equivalent modern backend languages.

• Possess mastery in designing, developing, and deploying high-throughput, event-driven, and streaming systems using Kafka or RabbitMQ.

• Exhibit strong experience with microservices architecture, containerization (Docker, Kubernetes), and managing diverse SQL and NoSQL databases.

• Apply demonstrable ability to lead end-to-end design decisions, define technical strategy, and mentor a team of developers.

Good to have Competencies

• Utilize strong experience with a major public cloud provider, with a preference for Google Cloud Platform (GCP).

• Demonstrate expertise in defining and managing CI/CD pipelines using tools like Devtron.

• Apply experience with code instrumentation for system monitoring, logging, and tracing to ensure observability.

• Lead the implementation of preventative measures following root cause analysis of production incidents.
