Job Description SAP ABAP Lead / Assistant Manager (Pune)

Position Summary

We are looking for a passionate and skilled SAP ABAP Developer to join our SAP Center of Excellence (COE) in Pune. In this role, you will collaborate closely with SAP Functional Analysts to design, develop, test, implement, and support custom SAP solutions including enhancements, forms, reports, interfaces, conversions, and workflows.

You will be responsible for delivering high-quality development aligned with SAP best practices, supporting production issues, and ensuring reliable performance across SAP ECC and S/4HANA environments. SAP S/4HANA experience is preferred.

Key Responsibilities

Development & Technical Delivery

Work closely with SAP COE Functional Analysts to understand business requirements and translate them into robust technical solutions.

Design, develop, enhance, and support:

Reports & custom transactions

User exits, BADI, BAPI development

Enhancements, modifications, and BADIs

SAPscript, SmartForms, Adobe Forms

Interfaces (RFC, BAPI, IDoc, Proxy)

Conversions (BDC, LSMW)

Dialog programming and ALV reports

Ensure adherence to SAP development standards, naming conventions, and coding best practices.

Support & Troubleshooting

Analyze, diagnose, and resolve SAP production issues, ensuring minimal disruption to business operations.

Perform detailed debugging to identify root causes and recommend long-term corrective actions.

Documentation & Collaboration

Prepare and maintain comprehensive technical specifications, design documents, test scripts, and deployment guides.

Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify test cases, test data, and ensure smooth implementation.

Provide effort estimation, status reporting, and meet release timelines.

Optimization & Continuous Improvement

Perform performance tuning and code optimization to enhance system efficiency.

Recommend improvements to processes, performance, and technical design.

Stay updated with new SAP technologies, tools, and development methodologies.

Required Qualifications & Skills

Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related discipline.

6 to 8 years of recent hands-on experience in SAP ABAP development across full development lifecycle and production support.

Strong command over ABAP development tools and objects:

Classical & OO ABAP

Enhancements (User Exits, BADI, Enhancement Framework)

SmartForms, SAPscript, Adobe Forms

BDC, LSMW, Data Dictionary

ALV, Dialog Programming

RFCs, BAPIs, IDocs

Strong understanding of core SAP modules such as SD, MM, FI.

Excellent debugging and analytical skills.

Strong English communication skillsboth written and verbal.

Preferred Qualifications

Exposure to SAP S/4HANA ABAP, CDS views, AMDP, RAP, and HANA-optimized coding.

Experience working with SAP Fiori/UI5 enhancements or OData services.

Familiarity with modern SAP development tools such as ABAP in Eclipse (ADT).

Understanding of Agile/Scrum methodologies.
