SAP FICO CO Subject Matter Expert (Support & Enhancements)

Experience

1015 years of SAP FICO experience with deep expertise in SAP Controlling (CO)

Strong background in AMS / Production Support and Continuous Improvement

Role Summary

We are looking for a seasoned SAP CO SME to own and support SAP Controlling processes in a steady-state support and enhancement environment. The role focuses on L3/L4 production support, root cause analysis, system optimization, and delivery of incremental enhancements aligned with evolving business needs.

Key Responsibilities

Production Support (Primary Focus)

Provide L3/L4 SAP CO support for business-critical issues.

Perform root cause analysis (RCA) for recurring issues and drive permanent fixes.

Handle month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close support for CO processes.

Resolve issues related to:

o Cost center postings and allocations

o Internal order settlement

o Product costing, WIP, variance calculation, and settlements

o Profit center and profitability reporting

Monitor background jobs and period-end programs related to CO.

SAP CO Functional Ownership

Act as functional owner / SME for SAP CO modules:

o Cost Center Accounting (CO-OM-CCA)

o Internal Orders (CO-OM-OPA)

o Profit Center Accounting

o Product Costing (CO-PC)

o Profitability Analysis (CO-PA Account-based / Costing-based)

Ensure stability, data accuracy, and compliance of CO configurations.

Own and maintain allocations cycles, overhead calculations, and settlement rules.

Enhancements & Continuous Improvements

Analyze business change requests and deliver configuration-based enhancements with minimal disruption.

Support change impact analysis, effort estimation, and solution design.

Implement and test:

o New cost elements / cost centers / profit centers

o Allocation logic changes

o Reporting enhancements

Collaborate with ABAP, BI, and integration teams for WRICEF objects.

Cross-Module Integration Support

Support integration issues between CO and:

o FI (GL, AP, AR, AA)

o MM (Procurement, Inventory valuation)

o SD (Revenue and billing impacts on CO-PA)

o PP (Production orders and product costing)

Reconcile FICO data inconsistencies and posting errors.

Governance, Documentation & Compliance

Maintain and update functional documentation, SOPs, and knowledge base articles.

Support audit queries, compliance checks, and financial controls.

Ensure adherence to ITIL/AMS processes: incident, problem, change management.

S/4HANA & System Optimization (Preferred)

Support SAP S/4HANA Finance CO processes in a live environment.

Optimize usage of:

o Universal Journal

o Margin Analysis

o Fiori apps and embedded analytics for CO

Participate in post-go-live stabilization and optimization initiatives.

Required Skills & Qualifications

Functional Expertise

1015 years of hands-on SAP FICO experience with strong CO focus

Proven experience in AMS / Production Support projects

Strong knowledge of financial close, controlling, and management accounting

Support & Delivery Skills

Excellent troubleshooting and analytical skills

Experience working with SLAs, KPIs, and support metrics

Ability to manage multiple tickets and enhancements simultaneously

Soft Skills

Strong communication skills to interact with finance users and leadership

Ability to explain complex CO issues in business-friendly language

Proactive, ownership-driven mindset

Education & Certifications

Bachelors degree in Finance, Accounting, or equivalent

Nice to Have

SAP FICO / S/4HANA Finance certification

Experience with global support models (24x7 / follow-the-sun)

Exposure to SAC, Group Reporting, or BPC

Experience in manufacturing or cost-intensive industries

Knowledge of automation or optimization in finance operations
