Role Description

The ORM Framework Adherence and Quality Assurance (FaD) function play a crucial second line of defense role within the ORM ecosystem. They validate that the OR Framework is being correctly implemented across business lines and operations. They verify that controls are operating as intended, data and metrics are reliable, and processes are documented and followed. They enhance the ORM program continuously to adapt to evolving risks, regulatory demands and organizational changes.

Division Overview

Operational Risk Management (ORM) function in the Chief Risk Office, is responsible for managing the Bank’s operational risk exposure in line with the established group wide risk appetite and governance framework. To achieve this the NFRM function requires:

• Risk Managers with the experience, seniority, and tools to assess complex risks and intervene where they lie outside the bank’s risk appetite.
• A comprehensive, integrated, simple, and easy to use NFR Framework with supporting technology that assists risk identification, assessment, and remediation.
• Strong understanding of the businesses combined with regular engagement which would allow NFRM to provide support, review, and challenge in line with the 3 Lines of Defence (LoD) Model.
• Close coordination with all Second Line Risk Type Controllers to facilitate the production of a holistic view of NFR.
• Proper consideration of emerging risks, rather than just current issues.
• Effective governance combined with supporting MI that facilitates decision-making
• ORM is a matrix organization, with business, region, and functional specialist axes.

Your key responsibilities

This role is to lead the OR Mumbai Risk Centre FaD team to deliver on ORM’s mandate of Framework Adherence and QA, and effectively perform 2LoD responsibilities such as:

• Execute quality assurance processes to ensure ORM consistently meet OR quality standards set by the Bank for New Product and Transaction requests (NPA/NTA)
• Execute Framework Adherence reviews to assess how well 1LoD and RTC functions are complying with OR quality standards set by the Bank; discuss results and agree improvement areas where material non-adherence has been identified with our 1LoD / RTC stakeholders
• Leverage Adherence and QA outcomes to identify opportunities that improve operating and design efficiencies including but not limited to standards, processes, and tooling. Review and prioritize the improvements BoW with ORM Framework and New Business Office (NBO)
• Execute quality assurance processes that improve the quality, value and consistency of risk management focus
• Supervise the day to day in the Adherence and QA team for both RTB and CTB BoW
• Engagement with Global Senior Management, Group Audit, and Regulators as part of key responsibilities, ensuring effective communication and alignment with regulatory / audit expectations
• Stay informed on regulatory developments and industry best practices such as Basel guidelines and other regulatory standards and assess whether the ORM Framework reflects these changes.

Your skills and experience

• Extensive experience with a minimum of 12 years in business, finance, risk management, consulting, or similar role within financial services
• A robust understanding of ORM principles, practices and preferably a good working knowledge of core ORM framework components in place at DB
• Demonstrable experience of developing strong working relationships with business areas to facilitate successful risk management within the 3LoD model
• Experience of working with senior stakeholders within a high-pressure dynamic environment and be willing to challenge as required.
• Demonstrated ability to convey complex ideas clearly and effectively both verbally and in writing to diverse audiences, including stakeholders, teams and senior management
• Highly proficient in MS Excel / Access with demonstrated expertise in aggregating and wrangling large datasets to generate meaningful management information (MI)
