Role Overview
We are seeking a highly motivated R&D Intern Quantum Computing Software Development & Systems Engineering to join our Quantum Computing Systems & Software Group. In this role, you will contribute to the development of quantum software stacks, system control software, and hardwaresoftware interfaces for quantum processors.
This position provides hands-on exposure to quantum programming, system orchestration, calibration pipelines, experiment automation, and performance benchmarking for real quantum hardware and simulators.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain quantum software components for programming, control, and execution of quantum circuits.
- Support hardwaresoftware integration for quantum processors (control, readout, calibration, scheduling).
- Implement experiment automation, data acquisition, and analysis pipelines for quantum systems.
- Assist in building quantum compilation, transpilation, and optimization workflows.
- Develop APIs, drivers, or middleware connecting quantum hardware, simulators, and classical compute systems.
- Perform system-level benchmarking (gate fidelity, latency, throughput, noise analysis).
- Contribute to documentation, software testing, and reproducible system workflows.
- Collaborate with physicists, electronics engineers, and system architects to optimize performance.
Required Qualifications
- Masters or Ph.D. (or final-year student) in Computer Science, Physics, Electrical Engineering, Quantum Engineering, or related fields.
- Strong understanding of quantum computing fundamentals (qubits, gates, circuits, measurement, noise).
- Programming experience in Python (required); familiarity with C/C++ or Rust is a plus.
- Knowledge of classical computing systems, algorithms, and data structures.
- Ability to work in cross-functional research and engineering teams.
Required Skills
- Experience with quantum software frameworks such as Qiskit, Cirq, PennyLane, Braket, or similar.
- Familiarity with quantum circuit simulation, noise models, and hardware constraints.
- Experience with experiment control, workflow orchestration, or distributed systems.
- Knowledge of Linux environments, version control (Git), and software testing practices.
- Ability to analyze performance metrics and optimize system-level behavior.
- Strong technical documentation and communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with quantum control software, calibration routines, or pulse-level programming.
- Knowledge of quantum compilers, schedulers, or runtime systems.
- Exposure to hybrid quantum-classical algorithms (VQE, QAOA, variational circuits).
- Familiarity with cloud-based quantum platforms or HPC environments.
- Prior experience in quantum computing research labs, startups, or open-source projects.
What We Offer
- Opportunity to work on real quantum computing systems and software stacks.
- Mentorship from experts in quantum algorithms, hardware, and system engineering.
- Competitive compensation and strong growth opportunities in the quantum software ecosystem.
- Hands-on exposure to full-stack quantum computing, from low-level control to high-level applications.
