R&D Engineer, Generative AI

Location: Bangalore

Are you passionate about cutting-edge technologies just as we are?  Join us at Johnson Controls as R&D Engineer, Generative AI, and drive new technologies within Johnson Controls!  This position requires a broad set of skills and experience with the discovery, development, application and testing of Generative AI technologies.

In this role, you will work on innovative projects that leverage AI/GenAI, data science, and cloud computing to create intelligent systems and operational efficiencies as well as enable data-driven decision-making.

This is an exciting opportunity for a highly skilled R&D Engineer with experience in Generative AI to join our dynamic and innovative team.

Responsibilities:

  • Innovate and implement cutting-edge Generative AI solutions for novel use cases in operations and product.
  • Collaborate with R&D leadership and engineering teams to design and execute R&D projects, including prototypes and proofs of concept.
  • Stay current with trends and emerging technologies, applying insights to real-world challenges with reliable approaches.
  • Critically evaluate technology options.
  • Assess and communicate system implications (cost, performance) and propose solutions.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in mathematics, computer science, or engineering.
  • 2+ years of programming experience (Python, JavaScript, C#).
  • Proficiency in Generative AI, including hands-on experience with models, prompt engineering, RAG, and vector databases in platforms like Azure or AWS.
  • Strong software development skills and familiarity with commercial/open-source cloud technologies.
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills.
  • Strong presentation skills for engaging with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Collaborative mindset, intellectual curiosity, and a passion for data-driven intelligent systems.
  • Self-motivated, adaptable, and capable of driving projects independently.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree on related fields.
  • Experience in tech/product-driven environments or startups.
  • Expertise in rapid prototyping, cloud/edge technologies, and IoT.
