Quality Engineer 1 eCommerce Services

About the Role:

Were looking for someone who can identify potential weaknesses in a complex eCommerce ecosystem long before customers ever encounter them.

When you hear about a new service rolloutwhether its an API update, an inventory workflow change, a personalization enhancement, or a new backend integrationyou instinctively think about reliability, edge cases, dependencies, and customer impact. Quality isnt a final step to you; its a mindset built into how teams design, develop, and deliver services every day.

As a Quality Engineer for eCommerce Services, you will play a critical role in ensuring our distributed systems function reliably, scale efficiently, and deliver seamless customer experiences. You will partner closely with service engineers, product managers, and platform teams to design smart test strategies, expand service level automation, and validate that our systems behave as expected under real-world conditions.

Youll begin by developing a deep understanding of our services, integrations, data flows, and customer journeys. From there, youll help implement effective testing approaches, uncover integration risks, improve automation coverage, and strengthen service readiness for peak load and feature launches. Your work ensures that quality is something teams build in from the startnot something validated at the end.

What Will You Do?

Bring a Quality-First Mindset:

• Participate in early conversations about requirements, risks, and user scenarios.
• Help teams think through failure modes, dependencies, and real-world usage patterns.

Design and Execute Effective Test Strategies:

• Define thoughtful, scalable test approaches for microservices, APIs, events, and backend workflows.
• Write and execute test cases across functional, integration, contract, and end to end layers.
• Identify gaps in coverage and improve testing effectiveness.

Expand & Maintain Automation:

• Develop automated tests using modern frameworks (Playwright, Rest-Assured, or similar).
• Contribute to API, contract, and service level test suites.
• Support shift-left testing by integrating tests early into development workflows.

Validate Data Quality & System Behavior:

• Test data flows across services and verify data accuracy, completeness, and consistency.
• Support validation of event streams, pipelines, and downstream data consumption.

Strengthen Service Reliability:

• Help teams test resilience through negative testing, error injection, and integration scenarios.
• Validate behavior under load by contributing to performance and scalability testing efforts.

Improve CI/CD Quality Signals:

• Integrate automated tests into pipelines and ensure meaningful quality gates.
• Support debugging and root-cause identification when builds fail.
• Help streamline validation to enable fast, safe deployments.

Collaborate Across Teams:

• Work directly with engineers, product owners, architecture, SRE, and DevOps.
• Support teams in writing clear acceptance criteria and defining strong test scenarios.

Continuously Improve How We Test:

• Identify recurring gaps, risks, and opportunities across services.
• Contribute to reusable tools, patterns, and test data solutions.
• Help refine approaches for data setup, environment readiness, and automation consistency.

What Do You Need to Bring?

Required Qualifications:

• 35 years of experience in Quality Engineering or Software Engineering- Data Focused
• Hands-on experience with automated testing frameworks (Playwright, Java Rest-Assured, or similar)
• Strong experience with API testing (REST and/or GraphQL) and integration testing
• Experience validating data quality, completeness, and cross-system consistency
• Familiarity contributing automated tests within CI/CD pipelines (GitLab or similar)
• Experience working in Agile, cross-functional delivery teams
• A strong quality mindset grounded in risk awareness and customer empathy
• Excellent communication, documentation, and collaboration skills

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience working in containerized or Kubernetes-based environments
• Familiarity with microservices architectures
• Experience with Master Data Management systems (such as Stibo)
• Experience in retail or eCommerce
• Exposure to localization/internationalization testing
• Bachelors degree in computer science, Engineering, or equivalent experience
