Role: Purchase Engineer

Role summary
We are looking for a hands-on Purchase Engineer/Executive with strong tooling & fixture sourcing experience for precision manufacturing environments. The ideal candidate must have worked with vendors and internal engineering teams on tooling, fixtures, gauges, moulds, jigs, dies, vacuum-bag tooling, composites/FRP fixtures and automation fixtures preferably from the Hyderabad industrial ecosystem.
Key responsibilities:
- Source, evaluate and onboard suppliers for tooling, fixtures, gauges, moulds, jigs/dies, and related consumables.
- Issue RFQs, compare quotations (TCO), negotiate pricing, lead times, quality terms and payment terms.
- Work closely with R&D/production/QA/maintenance to translate technical drawings and BOMs into procurement specifications.
- Manage vendor relationships, capability assessments, PPAP / first article inspection coordination and corrective actions.
- Track and expedite tooling deliveries; manage inventory of critical fixtures and spares.
- Create and maintain approved vendor lists, cost sheets, and tooling lifecycle records.
- Support cost reduction initiatives (DFA/DFM inputs for procurement), standardization and value-engineering of tooling.
- Raise purchase orders, follow company procurement policies, and ensure timely invoice reconciliation with accounts.
- Visit vendor shops for capability audits, sample inspections and process improvement discussions.
Required experience & skills:
- 510 years procurement / purchase experience (or equivalent) with direct exposure to tooling & fixtures.
- Candidate background from any of these domains is strongly preferred: precision machining, tool room operations, mould manufacturing, composites / FRP, vacuum-bag tooling, or automation fixtures.
- Strong technical understanding of manufacturing drawings, GD&T basics, materials (steel alloys, tool steels, FRP), and common tooling processes (CNC, EDM, grinding, heat treatment, moulding).
- Proven vendor development and negotiation skills.
- Good communication skills and ability to coordinate across engineering, production and quality teams.
- Proficiency with MS Office; experience with ERP/MRP and basic PO/PR workflows preferred.
- Willingness to travel locally to vendor sites in and around Hyderabad.
Educational qualification:
- Diploma / BE / B.Tech (Mechanical / Production / Tool & Die / Metallurgy) or equivalent experience.
- Preferred / Desirable
- Worked previously in an industrial manufacturing setup in Hyderabad.
- Hands-on experience with tooling cost estimation, fixture design inputs, and lifecycle maintenance.
- Knowledge of composites tooling or vacuum-bagging processes is an advantage.
