The Private Office is a high-impact advisory firm working at the intersection of public policy, regulation, taxation, and strategic government engagement. We advise corporates, founders, boards, and investorsparticularly in regulated and emerging sectorson navigating complex policy, tax, and regulatory landscapes in India.
Our work spans direct engagement with Union Ministries, regulators, parliamentary stakeholders, and state governments, helping shape outcomes that are commercially viable, legally sound, and policy-aligned.
Role Overview
We are looking for a Public Policy & Taxation Manager who brings strong analytical depth, drafting capability, and real-world exposure to Indias policy and taxation ecosystem.
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys policy problem-solving, regulatory structuring, stakeholder engagement, and translating government thinking into actionable strategies for businesses.
Key Responsibilities
Public Policy & Regulatory Affairs
- Track, analyse, and interpret policy developments, draft bills, notifications, circulars, and parliamentary activity across key ministries and regulators
- Prepare policy briefs, position papers, consultation responses, and representation notes
- Support structured government and regulator engagement strategies
- Assist in stakeholder mapping and policy influence planning
Taxation & Fiscal Policy
- Analyse direct and indirect tax frameworks, including GST, income tax, international taxation, and sector-specific levies
- Evaluate fiscal and tax policy impact on clients across industries
- Support drafting of tax representations, advocacy notes, and policy reform proposals
- Work with external tax counsels, CAs, and legal advisors where required
Research, Drafting & Advisory
- Conduct deep-dive research on regulatory, tax, and policy issues
- Draft high-quality advisory notes, board-level briefs, and internal strategy documents
- Support senior leadership in client delivery and high-level discussions
- Client & Stakeholder Interaction
- Engage with clients on policy and tax-related matters
- Support meetings with ministries, regulators, industry bodies, and think tanks
- Represent The Private Office in policy discussions when required
Ideal Candidate Profile
Must-Have
- 58 years of experience in public policy, taxation, regulatory advisory, government consulting, Big4, think tanks, or law/tax firms
- Strong understanding of Indias policy-making and taxation framework
- Excellent research, drafting, and analytical skills
- Ability to translate complex policy/tax issues into clear commercial insights
- Comfortable working with senior stakeholders and government ecosystems
Good to Have
- Exposure to regulated sectors (financial services, fintech, crypto, infrastructure, energy, technology, manufacturing, etc.)
- Prior experience engaging with Union Ministries, regulators, or parliamentary processes
- Background in economics, law, public policy, taxation, or finance
- MBA, LLM, CA, or relevant policy qualification (preferred, not mandatory)
