JOB OPENING: Process Safety Engineer (5-6 Years Experience)
Role overview
TheProcessSafety Engineer will be responsible for planning, executing, and documenting process safety studies such as HAZOP, QRA, and SIL across projects, ensuring risks are identified, evaluated, and reduced to ALARP while maintaining compliance with applicable standards and client requirements.
Key responsibilities
Facilitate HAZOP studies for new and existing process units, including preparation of nodes, guide words, and action lists.
Support / lead QRA, including data collection, consequence modeling inputs, frequency estimation, and risk contour interpretation.
Conduct SIL / LOPA for safety instrumented functions, prepare SIL determination reports.
Review and interpret PFDs, P&IDs, cause & effect diagrams, equipment datasheets, and operating procedures for use in safety studies.
Prepare highquality technical reports for HAZOP, QRA, SIL and other PHA/PSM studies, and track closure of recommendations with stakeholders.
Support development and maintenance of process safety procedures, risk registers, and bowtie analyses for projects.
Participate in incident / nearmiss investigations, contribute to root cause analysis, and recommend corrective and preventive actions.
Assist in training and awareness sessions on process safety topics (HAZOP, QRA, SIL basics) for internal teams and client personnel.
Required qualifications and experience
Bachelors degree in Chemical / Process / Petroleum Engineering (or related discipline).
3+ years of handson experience in process safety / risk engineering in oil & gas, chemicals, power, or similar process industry environment.
Demonstrated experience participating in and preferably facilitating HAZOP studies.
Practical exposure to QRA and consequence analysis (using standard tools or through structured participation in studies).
Experience in SIL assessment / LOPA and familiarity with functional safety concepts and relevant standards (e.g., IEC 61511).
Strong ability to read and interpret PFDs, P&IDs, cause & effect charts, and operating procedures.
Skills and competencies
Solid understanding of process safety management principles and major hazard risk assessment.
Good analytical and quantitative skills; comfort with spreadsheets and engineering calculations used in risk assessment.
Clear, concise technical writing skills for delivering clientfacing reports.
Effective facilitation and communication skills; ability to work with multidisciplinary and client teams.
Proactive, detailoriented, and able to manage multiple studies and deadlines simultaneously.
Preferred (nice to have)
Experience with common process safety / risk software (e.g., PHAST, Safeti, PHA/LOPA tools) or equivalent.
Exposure to international and Indian regulatory frameworks related to process safety and major accident hazards.
