Principal Linguistic Engineer Hindi (ASR/TTS/NLU)

Role Overview

The Principal Linguistic Engineer will serve as the senior-most Hindi linguistics expert , responsible for designing and guiding linguistic frameworks across ASR, TTS, and NLU systems. This role drives phonological modeling, linguistic rule development, evaluation frameworks, and in-depth diagnostics for large-scale AI/ML language technologies.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead linguistic architecture for Hindi across speech and language processing workflows.
• Define Hindi phonological rules such as schwa deletion, aspiration patterns, nasalization, vowel lengthening, and retroflexdental contrasts.
• Develop pronunciation lexicons, grapheme-to-phoneme (G2P) rules, and prosody/intonation guidelines.
• Conduct deep error diagnostics for Hindi ASR outputs, TTS naturalness, and NLU parsing.
• Build golden evaluation sets and adversarial datasets.
• Review complex annotation and evaluation cases for linguistic correctness.
• Mentor Lead and Senior Linguistic Engineers; conduct technical trainings.
• Collaborate with engineering and research teams to drive model improvements.

Required Skills

• Native-level Hindi proficiency with strong academic or applied linguistics background.
• Advanced understanding of Hindi phonology, morphology (, , ), syntax, semantics.
• Experience in ASR/TTS/NLU linguistic pipeline design.
• Knowledge of code-mixing patterns (HindiEnglish), transliteration, and dialect variations.

Hands-on experience with Praat, MFA, ASR scoring tools, annotation/evaluation tools.
