Principal AI Engineer

vConstruct, a Pune based Construction Technology company seeks a Principal AI Engineer to join our fast-evolving team that is building next-generation AI-based tools and agent systems for the construction Industry. Our AI and Data Team is focused on designing intelligent AI agents, and copilots using modern AI/ML techniques.

You will work closely with cross-functional teams, including business stakeholders, data engineers, and technical leads, to ensure alignment between business needs and data architecture and define data models for specific focus areas.

Responsibilities

Architecture and design:

• Lead the design of AI/ML infrastructure, platforms, and services, ensuring they are reliable, performant, and scalable.

End-to-end development:

• Own the entire lifecycle of AI projects, including prompt engineering, workflow design, model deployment, and A/B testing.

Data Science & Applied ML Strategy

• Lead development of predictive models, deep learning systems, and applied ML use cases.
• Translate business problems into advanced ML and AI solutions.
• Drive experimentation frameworks including A/B testing and model evaluation metrics.

Generative & Agentic AI Development

• Own end-to-end lifecycle of LLM-based systems: prompt engineering, fine-tuning, structured grounding, embedding strategies, and evaluation.
• Architect autonomous and semi-autonomous AI agents leveraging modern orchestration frameworks.
• Lead development of AI copilots integrated into enterprise tools and workflows.

Technical Leadership & Team Development

• Mentor ML engineers, data scientists, and AI developers.
• Establish engineering standards, code quality benchmarks, and scalable system design patterns.
• Identify skill gaps and drive strategic hiring to build high-performing AI teams.

AI Strategy & Enterprise Integration

• Align AI initiatives with organizational AI strategy and digital transformation goals.
• Partner with leadership, business stakeholders, and security teams to deploy AI responsibly.
• Drive AI adoption programs that improve operational efficiency and workforce productivity.

Hands-on Engineering

• Develop production-grade systems in Python and modern ML frameworks.
• Build APIs, microservices, and model-serving architectures.
• Implement MLOps pipelines and CI/CD for AI systems.

Continuous Innovation

• Stay current with evolving AI trends including LLMs, multimodal models, autonomous agents, and AI infrastructure.
• Evaluate emerging platforms and frameworks for enterprise applicability.

AI Rollout:

• Ensure the scalability, reliability, and security of AI solutions by implementing best practices for AI model development, deployment, and maintenance.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of Industry Experience (IT Industry, or ConTech Industry) in total would be mandatory
• At least 5 years of experience with Software Development,
• At least 4 years of experience with Machine Learning.
• At least 2 years of experience Generative AI, specifically with Large Language Models (LLM)
• Excellent knowledge of machine learning algorithms, deep learning frameworks (e.g. Tensorflow, Pytorch), and statistical methods.
• Experience with generative AI concepts such as Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), agentic workflows, training LLMs with structured and unstructured data sets
• Experience with Data Connectors and API gateways that support seamless communication between systems.
• Deep subject matter expertise in AI technologies, including but not limited to Copilot Studio, OpenAI, Semantic Kernels, Azure AI Foundry, Google Gemini, Microsoft 365, and M365 Copilot or Anthropic or AWS platforms.
• Familiarity with cloud environments (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP) and MLOps tools.
• Strong programming skills in Python and experience with AI/ML frameworks
• Proficiency in vector databases and embedding models for retrieval tasks
• Understanding of Knowledge Graph is a plus
• Possess strong problem-solving and strategic thinking abilities.
• Strong communicator with the ability to present ideas clearly and influence stakeholders with a passion for enabling data-driven transformation.
