PostgreSQL DBA

PostgreSQL Database Administrator with 5+ years of hands-on experience in managing, optimizing, and securing PostgreSQL databases in production environments. The ideal candidate will be responsible for ensuring high availability, performance, integrity, and security of databases supporting business-critical applications.

Key Responsibilities

• Install, configure, upgrade, and maintain PostgreSQL database systems
• Monitor database performance, identify bottlenecks, and implement tuning/optimization strategies
• Manage backup, recovery, and disaster recovery solutions (logical and physical backups)
• Ensure database security, access control, and compliance with best practices
• Perform database capacity planning and storage management
• Troubleshoot database issues and provide root cause analysis
• Implement high availability and replication solutions (Streaming Replication, Logical Replication, Patroni, etc.)
• Work closely with application teams to design efficient database schemas and queries
• Automate routine DBA tasks using scripts and tools
• Support database migrations and upgrades with minimal downtime
• Maintain documentation for database architecture, procedures, and standards

Required Skills & Qualifications

• 5+ years of hands-on experience as a PostgreSQL DBA
• Strong knowledge of PostgreSQL architecture and internals
• Expertise in performance tuning (indexes, query optimization, vacuuming, partitioning)
• Experience with backup and recovery tools (pg_dump, pg_basebackup, WAL archiving)
• Strong SQL and PL/pgSQL skills
• Experience with Linux/Unix systems
• Knowledge of replication, clustering, and failover strategies
• Familiarity with monitoring tools (pgAdmin, Prometheus, Grafana, Nagios, etc.)
• Experience with database security best practices
• Ability to troubleshoot complex production issues

Preferred / Nice to Have

• Experience with cloud platforms (AWS RDS/Aurora, GCP Cloud SQL, Azure Database for PostgreSQL)
• Exposure to automation tools (Ansible, Terraform, shell scripting)
• Experience with containerized environments (Docker, Kubernetes)
• Knowledge of other databases (MySQL, Oracle, MongoDB)
• PostgreSQL certifications
