Job Description

Job Title: Head Molten Salt Electrolysis Plant

Electrolysis (Oxide Metal) and Powder Handling (Alloy Powder) are the two highest safety-risk stages in the Rare-Earth Magnet value chain, because they combine high temperature / high energy and reactive /explosive materials respectively.


Brief Process Overview

Feed: High-purity RE Oxides (NdO, PrO, DyO, etc.)

Process: Conversion to chlorides molten salt bath. Electrolytic reduction at 700900C in inert/refractory cells.

Output: RE Metal ingots/granules.

Critical controls: Moisture, oxygen ppm, current density, anodecathode spacing, bath chemistry.

Key Responsibilities

Design, optimize, and stabilize oxide chloride metal conversion processes

Develop and implement SOPs for oxide chlorination (NHCl / Cl + C routes)

Control electrolyte composition and electrolysis operating window (7001100C)

Lead process scale-up from pilot to commercial scale and technology transfer

Conduct root-cause analysis of cell failures and improve cell life and yield

Interface with R&D, pilot operations, and downstream alloy/magnet teams

Qualification & Experience and Skills

B Tech/M. Tech / Ph.D. in Chemical or Metallurgical or Engineering.

Experience (20/15/12 Years) in high-temperature electrochemical or metallurgical process plants (Aluminum/ Magnesium / Sodium / Rare-Earth electrolysis)

Strong foundation in thermodynamics, kinetics, and molten salt systems.

Mass and energy balance models for process optimization.

Team leadership |High-temperature | refractory systems| process scale-up| regulatory liaison
