Job Description
The Payroll Administrator is responsible for supporting the accurate, timely and compliant processing of payroll across the organisation. The role ensures that all employees are paid correctly and on time, statutory obligations are met, and the underlying payroll data is maintained to a high standard of accuracy and kept confidential at all times.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee the preparation and processing of monthly/weekly payrolls, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
- Validate payroll calculations, deductions, overtime, variable payments, and adjustments.
- Ensure full compliance with HMRC requirements, pension regulations, statutory payments (SMP, SSP, SPP), and PAYE processes.
- Prepare and submit statutory returns, including RTI submissions, P11Ds, P45S, and year-end activities.
- Ensure payroll systems, employee records, and data are maintained accurately and securely.
- Act as primary point of contact for payroll-related queries from employees and managers, providing clear and timely responses.
- Liaise with HR regarding employee data, contracts, absence and leave information
- Ensure payroll documentation and records are accurately maintained and securely stored
- Provide payroll reports and data analysis to support audits, budgeting, and financial reporting.
- Maintain confidentiality and comply with data protection requirements at all times
- Knowledge, Skills and Experience
- AAT qualified (or equivalent), part-qualified, or qualified by experience
- Proven experience in payroll administration
- Experience using payroll systems (BrightPay experience desirable)
- Sound understanding of UK payroll legislation, including PAYE, National Insurance and pensions
- Experience supporting payroll as part of a month-end process
- Strong numerical accuracy and attention to detail
- Confident communicator, comfortable engaging with colleagues via telephone and video calls
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Strong organisational skills and ability to manage competing deadlines
