How You Will Contribute:

• Define Optical Link Engineering requirements for planning software to support Ciena's diverse product portfolio.

• Analyze and validate optical results generated by planning tools, ensuring accuracy and precision.

• Develop manual validation tools to supplement optical result verification.

• Collaborate with customers and field system engineers to optimize network designs from a Link Engineering perspective.

• Model Ciena Optical products, including modems, optical transport lines, control planes, and network management systems, within planning tools.

• Partner with software developers to clarify hardware requirements and ensure seamless integration.

• Work with product owners to identify workflow gaps and ensure alignment with configurations.

The Must Haves:

• Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Optical Communications/Networking with 1+ years of experience in DWDM platforms.

• Expertise in Optical Technologies and Architectures, including linear and non-linear effects impacting optical networks.

• Proficiency in simulation tools for OSNR margin computation and power propagation analysis.

• Strong analytical skills and effective communication abilities, coupled with a team-oriented mindset.

• Familiarity with Python and C programming languages.

Nice to Haves:

• Knowledge of scripting tools such as MATLAB, TCL, and MS Excel.

• Exposure to various software technologies and architectures.

• Experience interacting with sales engineers and customers to understand planning tool requirements.
