Job Title: Team Leader – Credit Underwriting

Location: Bangalore

Business & Team: Retail Operations & VERO Team

Impact & contribution: Credit analysis, decisioning, verification, monitoring throughout the credit lifecycle; the development of credit policy; or the implementation of credit strategies, including problem asset strategies; across the retail or corporate business. People management.

Roles & Responsibilities:

Team Leadership & Oversight:

  • Lead and manage a team of mortgage credit underwriters.
  • Monitor daily operations to ensure timely and accurate credit decisions.
  • Provide training, mentoring, and performance feedback to team members.

Credit Evaluation & Approval:

  • Review and approve home loan applications within delegated authority.
  • Ensure thorough analysis of applicant income, property documents, credit history, and repayment capacity.
  • Maintain adherence to internal credit policies and risk appetite.

Risk & Compliance Management:

  • Ensure compliance with regulatory guidelines (RBI, NHB) and internal audit standards.
  • Identify and mitigate risks related to borrower profiles and property valuations.
  • Support internal and external audits with required documentation and clarifications.

Stakeholder Collaboration:

  • Work closely with Sales, Legal, Technical Valuation, and Operations teams to streamline the underwriting process.
  • Resolve queries and provide guidance on complex cases.
  • Participate in credit committee discussions for high-value or exceptional cases.

Essential Skills:

  • Excellent analytical and decision-making skills.
  • Strong leadership and team management capabilities.
  • Familiarity with credit scoring models and underwriting systems.
  • Effective communication and stakeholder management.
  • High attention to detail and commitment to compliance.

Educational Qualifications:

  • Graduate/Postgraduate in Finance, Commerce, or related field (MBA preferred).
