Ontologist / Knowledge Engineer

We are seeking a detail-oriented Ontologist to support the daily management and semantic enrichment of our R&D data assets. In this role, you will execute ontology updates, perform data mapping against industry standards (IDMP, CDISC, FHIR), and assist in preparing data for Knowledge Graphs and AI applications. You will work closely with Senior Product Owners and Data Stewards to ensure our terminologies in CENtree are accurate, up-to-date, and "fit for purpose."

• Routine Updates: Execute timely updates for core ontologies (e.g., AFO , IDMP-O ) as new releases become available during Program Increments (PI).
• Creating "Slims": Build and maintain application-specific ontologies (e.g., a slimmed-down CMC Process ontology ) that reduce complexity for specific business tools while maintaining alignment with the source.
• Version Control: Manage versioning and ensure proper governance of vocabularies within the CENtree platform.

• Standardization: Map internal proprietary terms to external reference standards, specifically CDISC , IDMP , and ISO units of measurement.
• Gap Analysis: Review existing ontologies to identify missing terms or coverage gaps and scout public ontologies for potential inclusion.
• Cross-Domain Linking: Assist in mapping exercises to link R&D data (PLM) with Manufacturing (ERP) concepts to support supply chain use cases.

• Data Conversion: Work on technical tasks such as converting business rules from XML into Turtle (.ttl) files for loading into ontologies.
• AI Readiness: Collaborate with the AI Stewardship team to refine ontology structures, ensuring they support accurate prompting for tools like DataBloom and internal LLMs.
• Quality Checks: Run semantic structure reviews and consistency checks on data migrated into the system.

Technical Proficiency:

• Ontology Management: 3+ years of hands-on experience with tools like CENtree , Protg , or TopBraid .
• Semantic Web Technologies: Solid working knowledge of RDF, RDFS, OWL, and SPARQL .
• Data Formats: Experience working with XML, JSON , and Turtle (.ttl) files.

Domain Knowledge:

• Standards: Familiarity with pharmaceutical data standards (e.g., IDMP, CDISC, FHIR ) is highly desirable.
• Context: Understanding of Life Sciences, CMC, or Clinical Data is a strong plus.

Professional Attributes:

• Analytical Mindset: Ability to compare large lists of terms (e.g., Units of Measure) and identify discrepancies.
• Collaborative: Comfortable working with Product Owners to understand requirements (e.g., "Competency Questions") and translating them into ontology changes.
