This role focuses on functional independence, sensory-motor regulation, social participation during activities, and confidence-building through structured, enjoyable movement-based routines (e.g., jogging, basketball, swimming, and other fitness/leisure activities).

This position offers flexible hours, excellent pay, and the option to transition into a full-time role based on mutual fit and availability.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide 1:1 occupational therapy support tailored to a 19-year-old on the autism spectrum.
  • Build structured routines to increase participation in physical and recreational activities (jogging, basketball, swimming, gym/fitness, walking trails, etc.).
  • Support motor planning, coordination, endurance, and functional movement patterns in a safe, motivating manner.
  • Promote self-regulation strategies (sensory and emotional), transitions, and attention during activities.
  • Support community integration: sports facilities, parks, pools, recreation centers, and appropriate social settings.
  • Develop and track simple measurable goals (participation, endurance, confidence, skill progression).
  • Collaborate with family/caregivers to align goals, routines, and strategies; provide coaching and carryover recommendations.
  • Maintain basic session notes and progress updates as required.

Schedule & Work Arrangement

  • Flexible schedule (weekday and/or weekend options available).
  • Part-time initially, with the option to expand to full-time hours.
  • Sessions may include indoor and outdoor community settings (parks, courts, pools, recreation centers).

Compensation

  • Great pay (competitive; based on experience and schedule availability).
  • Potential for increased hours and long-term stability for the right candidate.

Qualifications

  • Licensed Occupational Therapist (OTR/L) (or eligibility to practice).
  • Experience working with adolescents/young adults with autism and/or neurodivergent individuals preferred.
  • Strong skills in functional goal-setting, sensory strategies, and activity-based interventions.
  • Comfortable supporting physical/recreational activities and community-based sessions.
  • CPR/First Aid certification preferred (or willingness to obtain).
  • Valid drivers license and reliable transportation preferred (if travel to community locations is required).
  • Patient, encouraging, and able to build rapport with a young adult in a respectful, strengths-based manner.

Ideal Candidate Traits

  • Energetic, calm, and consistent.
  • Enjoys sports/fitness/recreation and can make sessions engaging.
  • Safety-focused and confident in community-based support.
  • Communicates clearly with family and maintains professionalism.
