Job Description
Key Responsibilities
- Advanced Incident Handling: Own L2 queue for routing/switching, wireless, and firewall incidents; perform deep diagnostics (logs, flow analytics, packet captures) and restore service within SLA.
- Problem Management & RCA: Lead root cause analysis for recurring issues; document corrective actions, standard fixes, and contribute to Known Error Database.
- Change & Configuration Management: Prepare and execute standard changes (port/VLAN ops, trunking, ACL updates, AP configuration, SSID policy, firewall rule changes) under CAB governance; validate post-change health.
- Wireless Operations: Optimize WLAN (RF planning basics, interference checks, controller/AP configs), 802.1X authentication, guest/IoT segmentation; coordinate site surveys with vendors where required.
- Security & Perimeter: Administer firewall policies/NAT/VPN; review change impacts and mitigate risks; collaborate with SecOps on rule audits and posture improvements.
- Performance & Capacity: Track link/device utilization, errors, and RF metrics; recommend tuning/augmentation; contribute to quarterly capacity reviews.
- Knowledge & Runbook Ownership: Author and update SOPs/runbooks, remediation guides, and first-fix flows to uplift L1 effectiveness.
- Vendor & Cross-Functional Coordination: Engage OEM/Telco for TAC cases, circuit faults; coordinate with Service Desk/OSS and Application teams for end-to-end resolution.
- Compliance & Audit: Ensure changes and configs adhere to standards; support audits with evidence and config snapshots.
Must-Have Skills & Experience
- Experience: 3+ years in enterprise networking with hands-on L2 ownership across Switching, Wireless, and Firewall.
- Switching/Routing: Strong on VLANs, STP, EtherChannel/LACP, OSPF/BGP basics, QoS, port security (Cisco/Juniper).
- Wireless (WLAN): Controller/AP operations (Aruba/Cisco), SSID, RF troubleshooting, 802.11/802.1X, guest segmentation.
- Firewall: Policy management, NAT, IPS/URL filtering concepts; experience with Palo Alto or Fortinet preferred (plus: F5 LTM for L2 stack integration).
- Monitoring & Tools: NMS/SIEM/ITSM (e.g., SolarWinds, Cisco Prime/Aruba Central, Panorama/FortiManager, Wi-Fi analyzers, packet capture tools).
- Operational Excellence: Incident lifecycle, change control, CAB processes, documentation discipline.
