Education: Medical
A recognized MBBS degree qualification included in the First Schedule or Second Schedule or Part-II of the Third Schedule ( other than licentiate qualifications ) to the Indian Medical Council Act, 1956 (102 of 1956). Holders of educational qualifications included in Part-II of the Third Schedule should also fulfil the conditions specified in sub-section (3) of section 13 of the Indian Medical Council Act, 1956 (102 of 1956).
Post-Graduate degree in the concerned speciality or super-speciality mentioned in Section A of Schedule VI from recognized Teaching Institute i.e. Doctor of Medicine or Master of Surgery or Diplomate National Board or a recognized qualification equivalent thereto
Super Specialities (DM/M.Ch./DrNB) : On Completion of DM/MCh/ DrNB in the concerned subject
Eligibility Parameters:
Age: Not exceeding 50 years
Basic Course in Biomedical Research (BCBR) Certification - Should have completed the Basic course in Biomedical Research from Institutions designated by NMC.
RBMET Training Certificate - Should have completed the basic course in Medical Education Technology from Institutions designated by NMC.
Eligibility criteria is subject to amendments as per NMC guidelines - Teachers Eligibility Qualifications in Medical Institutions Regulations, (Amendment), 2023 as per National Medical Commission notification No. C-19011/06/2022/NMC/Coord in reference to notification numbered NMC/MCI-23(I)/2021-MED.
Job Content
Neurosurgeon is a healthcare professional specialised with the surgical treatment of disorders
which affect any portion of the nervous system including the brain, spinal cord and peripheral
nervous system.
Key Areas of Responsibility:
Primary responsibilities include clinical activities. This Clinical faculty position will take part in
inpatient settings as well as providing patient care in a professional practice setting ( wherever
applicable ).
Main Job Tasks:
A Neurosurgeon, or Brain Surgeon, is responsible for examining through surgical techniques to diagnose and treat problems with the nervous system, including the brain, spine / spinal cord and peripheral nerves.
Their duties include ordering tests for patients based on their neurological symptoms, operating robotic mechanisms to perform non-invasive procedures, and removing brain and spinal tumours, relieve chronic pain, and correct deformities.
Clinical Responsibilities
Examine, diagnose within the scope of training, experience, and privileges.
He/she shall (wherever applicable) : be responsible for proper maintenance of the case and filing system in the department.
supervise the hospital work being carried out by the residents and other junior faculty members in the department.

Diagnosing and treating nervous diseases of human beings
responsible for performing surgeries to assist in rectifying medical conditions that affect the spinal cord, brain, and peripheral nerves.
oversee and coordinate a team of surgeons and nurses to perform surgeries to remove tumours, relieve chronic pain, and treat wounds, vascular disorders, and diseases.
specialises in surgical procedures dealing with the brain and nervous system
Conducting examination of different parts of nervous system to find cause of disorder or location of defect via computer assisted imaging computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), positron emission tomography (PET), magnetoencephalography (MEG), and stereotactic radiosurgery, intraoperative MRI and functional MRI ( as applicable )
Assessing and diagnosing patients to determine if and what kind of surgery they may need
Operating microscopes for surgeries to perform microsurgeries.
Meeting with the families of patients to keep them updated on the patients condition and surgery details
Keeping records of patients, their diagnosis and medical history
Writing prescriptions for patients for all needed medication dealing with their condition
Filling out all paperwork involved in each process
Performing any emergency surgeries that may come by, such as patients with a stroke or aneurysm
Relating disorder to diseases or disorders in other parts or system of body
Studying clinical tests of cerebrospinal fluid, reports of histo-pathological examination, X-ray of skull and spinal cord system
Deriving and examining history of disorder/disease and possibility of inheriting nervous defects
Performing basic administrative and business tasks, such as keeping records, writing prescriptions, and filling out paperwork.
Keeping up with new discoveries and attending academic conferences.
Prescribing and conducting treatment of patients as required, adopting medicinal and surgical methods
Consulting other specialists to diagnose diseases
Specialising in any technique of diagnosing and treating particular types of nervous diseases
Diagnose patients with diseases that affect the nervous system
Develop and manage treatment plans
Prescribe medication for seizures, Encephalitis, Meningitis, and Alzheimers disease among others
Assess the severity of spinal cord disorders, and other deformities
Handling unscheduled emergency surgeries.
Working with psychiatrists, therapists, and neurologists, and consulting with other departments.
Recommend alternative treatments
When needed, provide pain management treatments
Administer various tests such as computed tomography (CT) scans, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) tests
Communicate and inform patients or family members
Track patients progress
Communicate with other health care professionals
Adhere to rules and regulations
Supervise medical technicians
Overall Responsibilities -
committed to be available in the eventuality of any inspection by MCI / NMC / RGUHS / ISO / external agencies.
Should be available in the hospital premises during duty hours and as assigned by HOD on OP / OT days.
Other Duties & Responsibilities:
Conducting himself / herself befitting the noble profession of medicine by desisting himself/herself from the temptation and indulgence in unfair practices - abide by the guidelines on Professional Responsibilities of Medical Professionals from by the Ethics & Medical Registration Board of the National Medical Commission.

Acquire knowledge of the Principles and the practical aspects of conduct of general & regional areas of expertise.
Abiding to the statutory & regulatory compliances as applicable in clinical practice.
